I have a GP100 in .22LR, and I also have a GP 100 .357 Match Champion. For comparison's sake, I also have a S&W 686+ in .357.

When comparing the two .357 magnums, I like the trigger on the S&W better, but the ergonomics of the GP 100 fit my large hands a bit better. In single action, both have a very clean break, but the S&W has much less travel in double action. I like the shorter trigger pull on the S&W, but on both revolvers the trigger is very smooth. But this isn't what the OP asked about.

The GP100 in .22LR is virtually the same size as the GP100 MC, as you might expect, except for the barrel length. The nice thing about this is the holsters I have for the MC also fit the .22LR, so I didn't have to buy a new holster. That's a perk.

I only have about 500 rounds through the .22LR, so I'm still breaking it in. In that time, I probably had 6 FTFs for every 100 rounds I put through the revolver. I'd get a strike on the case, but no discharge. I'd rotate the cartridge in the cylinder and try again, and they all fired on the 2nd try. I sent it back to Ruger to see what the problem was, and they replaced the firing pin. I just got it back and I hope to get it out to the range with a brick of ammo this weekend to see if the problem has been resolved. I also need to shoot it from the bench a bit - the accuracy I was expecting doesn't seem to be there when I shoot offhand. It could be me, it could be the ammo, or it may still be the pistol. But my initial observation is that my Ruger Mark III Hunter outshoots this pistol considerably.

So, I've a few issues / concerns with the GP 100 in .22LR, but I'm not about to give up on it. I like the pistol. It is fun to shoot, fits my hand well, and I think it would be great for new shooters. The chambers might be a little tight - I run a brush through after every 100 rounds to remove some crud so the cartridges seat a bit easier. Love having 10 rounds available, and it is very easy to load / unload. If I didn't have this already, I'd consider a S&W 617.
