This is a copy of a Sig P226, but what is it?

I got this gun and was wondering what kind of gun is it?

It's identical to my Sig P226, but it's not a Sig, it's and Austrian made gun (according to the writing on the right side of the gun [pictured])

I field stripped it and it alos look identical to the insides of the P226.

What do you all think, is it safe to rely on for protection? what kind of gun is this?

this what's bothering me, there is no manufacturer name on it.

It just says "Made in Austria"

I'll try and fire a couple of shots and see how it goes.

But can anyone tell me what it is, could it be a Chinese replica disguised as Austrian?

Very likely. The Chinese seem to have a replica for nearly every handgun:

Another possibility is some kind of handmade Khyber Pass deal.

If you can find a real Sig to compare to, you could take a few measurements.

Could be a special order of some sort.

Run a few rounds through it and check for any abnormalities, then run a few more and re check, then run a few hundred and check again.

That gun is different from the TZ99, which has a different decocker that is also a slide stop. The separate slide stop and decocker of the SIG are definitely present on the gun in question.

I've heard of Chinese copies of the SIGs, but never one with a "Made in Austria" stamp. Of course, from the folks that gave us poisoned baby and pet food and sulfuric-acid-filled drywall, anything is possible.

It may very well be an Iranian knock-off, they have been making knock-offs of the,G3, MP5, M16,HK21, Hi-Power, CZ75, Beretta92 and P226, etc., they may be doing a P228 now. The Symbol on the grips looks interesting , but it's not clear enough to be sure.
As a side note the Iranian made knock-offs of the CZ, SIG, M16 and some other models are made from Chinese made equipment. The Chinese & Iranians have a good economic trade agreement.
I'd say Iranian, or perhaps Pakistani.....

Chinese Norinco, saw one here too, in Ammran, the guy asked for $1500, bull, I could get a Glock 19 for that price , but I'm a 1911 fan myself.

It is clearly not a Zastava. It is prolly a Sig clone made under license in Austria like HK 91's were made in Greece and stamped with different markings.
