Night Vision at that price would be a no-go for me. Decent NV costs much more than that. Reading down further the ad states that the device is not suitable for rifles with 30-06 recoil. Hmmm.

That device at that price reminds me of the time a guy offered to sell me a two carat diamond for $25.00 in the bathroom of a bar.

When the Soviet Union kicked the bucket in early 90's 1PN series night vision Dragunov scopes sold for as low as the equivalent of $200 in full working order and <$100 if the (proprietary) battery was dead. Considering their image quality that wasn't really a bargain and they're still way, WAY better than current commercial el-cheapo Gen1 night vision scopes. Now that thermal scopes aren't as ridiculously priced as they were a few years ago I wouldn't consider a NV light amplifier scope for anything else than nighttime plinking. Whenever there's a real compelling and practical reason to use a rifle in total darkness, the target invariably emits a thermal radiation signature. That's when a thermal scope gives the shooter a huge advantage.

Speaking to thermal being illegal in all states for big game. In a way it's a matter of semantics. I consider nilgai, axis deer and fallow deer to be big game and in Texas it is legal to hunt them with a thermal imaging device. I've only killed Axis at night and don't know anyone who's killed one in daylight though I'm sure there are people that have. Since these animals aren't endemic the state doesn't classify exotics as big game. The people I know consider exotics as big game though.

Seems to be a little bit of confusion here....

Thermal = Infrared wavelengths
Night Vision = Amplified visual light wavelengths

You use night vision to amplify the night time ambient light.

You use thermal scope to track animal footprints, blood trail, find bedding areas, find wounded or harvested game.

Thanks for the clarification. I've never used either, just a spotlight. So substitue Night Vision for Thermal in my post above.
