We had a gathering this last weekend of AR15.com, THR, and FBMG Minions.

Thanks to AR15's SteveOh for filming and editing all of this together.

Yes, those are mostly FBMG's machine guns. I'm the big guy with the goatee. I show up a couple of times. That's my AR-SD (I'm wearing a big ACU gortex coat in that). It's my new baby. 10.5 AR with a Tac16 and a full length rail. Then that's me doing the Saiga 12 reload.

Here's PvtPyle demonstrating why he's an artist with a machinegun:

There are a bunch of other THR members in the video too, but I'll let them identify themselves if they want.

We had about 40 people show up. Some of us even camped out the night before. Damn that was cold. Sadly all of our laughing around the fire scared the coyotes away. :)

Correia, I am your long-long-long-long lost nephew.

Can I come and live with you and the family? :D

Looks like fun was had by all.

Disturbed - Land of Confusion, which just demonstrates that Steve has excellent taste.

That's my voice when somebody is explaining how to operate a PKM.

Looks fun.

Two questions, for my own curiousity:

How much money do you burn through in a day of shooting like that?
How much film business is FBMG getting so far?

A. Lots of $. We brought about fifty cases of ammo with us, and sold it all day. We rent the machine guns and sell the ammo to pay for the wear and tear.

B. Not much yet. I'm afraid that's kind of my area that I'm supposed to persue, but sadly I haven't been able to devote much time to the movie end of things. Know of anybody filming a war movie in Utah? I know this guy that has machine guns and grenade launchers. :)

How confined to Utah are you?

I get a couple inquiries a month from folks who are either out of my area (Seattle/Western Washington) or out of my league (Wanting real full auto firearms instead of faking it, wanting rocket launchers and big explosions, wanting vehicles...) and I'm always happy to pass those off to someone better suited than myself.

Sadly, most of the productions with real budgets go elsewhere though- Vancouver, B.C., New Zealand, Australia, or Eastern Europe are all pretty hot right now, and all cheaper than working within the US. Seems like the domestic market is mostly low to mid budget Indie films.

On the plus side, Indie filmmakers are very active online. If you want some website or forum suggestions to go plug your stuff, drop me an email.

So is most of your stuff easily converted between blank fire and the real deal? Wasn't sure if it was as simple as a screw-on restrictor or if you had to swap out springs, barrels, mags, etc. I've used a couple real firearms on sets, but only revolvers or pump shotguns so far...

BTW, on your website, the 'join our mailing list' gets me this message:
The page you are trying to access does not exist.
Please select a page from the main menu.

...and the 'request a demo disk' link is still dead as well.

nomadboi, I was planning on sticking in Utah. This area still has a pretty decent movie industry.

On the blank to actual, it depends on the gun. Some of them convert really easily, others don't. The PK series guns run on blanks like you wouldn't believe.

If you wouldn't mind sending me an e-mail with those links, that would be awesome.

There are several things I need to fix on the webpage. The link for the DVD is broken right now, as we're in the process of making a new one. We took some video at this shoot of some of the items in action for that purpose.

Really impressive Saiga reload too.

Going back and watching it, I let my elbow get too high.

I wanted to get that on video because I had some folks on another board saying sub 2 second Saiga 12 reloads were impossible. I said that I could do it pretty much anytime, and some people called it into question. So, there it is.

So I've only shot a couple of matches this whole year, and I'm totally out of practice. So I say, hey Steve, film me doing this reload. You didn't see the four takes before that one where I fumbled or screwed up, or did it just a bit too slow. :)

(note, that is with the bolt held open. If you do something like Ankeny's modification to the bottom of the bolt, you can do it with the bolt closed)

I never did Soviet infantry training.....

But I bet that second video violated a few rules about rounds-per-minute!

Did you need your Jim Carey voice to say "Smokin'!"?

What a blast!

I witnessed Correia's Saiga 12 reloads as they were being filmed. He's fast all right. And Pyle's freehanded emptying of a full ammo can of belted 7.62x54R with the PKM, on target... AWESOME is the only word I can come up with. The barrel turned a nice shade of white and smoked for a while after that. Overall, I'd rate the day A+. When we were all done shooting, and packing up, here comes the sheriff in his SUV, confronting about two dozen remaining armed citizens telling us he had received a complaint about a war going on in the hills with machine gun fire and lots of noise, and had to check it out. FBMG briefly discussed their qualifications to be there and do that, and he took off after a few minutes satisfied that no laws were broken. Long live the free state of Utah!

Yeah, the deputy was cool. As soon as he came over the top of the hill and saw all of the trucks and big honking tents he figured that we were legit. He even told dispatch that machine guns are legal, and that somebody was probably just freaking out for no reason.

I talked to him for a couple of minutes, showed him the Danger Cart full of machine guns and gave him a business card. Nice guy. Very professional.

Say, was our friend Nightcrawler in any of those scenes?

I make the briefest of cameos in the video. I'm crouching down, loading magazines, while everyone on the pistol line is shooting. You can tell because I'm the shockingly handsome one. You see a guy and you're like, "damn, that's a good looking man", that's me.

Seriously. :neener:

I had a great time at the shoot. Found out the hard way that apparently my FAL carbine needs a bigger gas port in the barrel, as after about four magazines it wouldn't function anymore. I was moping due to that, but the PKM made me feel better.

Oddly enough, only one person I asked wanted to shoot the .44 Mag. Made a nice thump on the steel plates, though. And, I was having a lot of problems with one of my FAL mags, so it helped me fix it too.

Those are the kinda' shoots I need to being going to. PvtPyle makes Rambo, etc. look like a dork. Correia, how much do belts of ammo cost to run thru the PK's, just for curiosities sake? Utah is pretty far away, but Knob Creek is pretty close. Hopefully I can make the Spring shoot there and finally sample some belt fed goodness.

I was wearing hearing protection the whole time. Everybody that I saw there was.

jagdpanzer347, I don't know. PvtPyle was at the Danger Cart taking money for ammo. It was pretty reasonable though, basically paying for the ammo + a certain amount per round for wear and tear on the expensive toys.

Corriea, reasonable is good enough for me. The suppresors seemed really effecient. Is that the way it is, or does the video enchance it? Nothing like the sound of ringing steel, by the way. Sadly, the club I belong to only uses steel for IPSC matches.
