There was an article in a local newspaper about a Marine Corps reservist who was killed in Iraq. It's not happy news. but not all that unusual. What irritates me (so expressed in deference to Art's grammaw) is what the Marine Corps had to say about the incident:
Prior to that, the article reported that the Marine was hit by a bullet from "an enemy combatant's assault rifle, possibly an AK-47."
*** is wrong with the Marine Corps these days? Yes, the AK-47 is a lethal weapon. So is a Henry .22LR lever action carbine. The AK-47 is not banned in the U.S. because it's a lethal weapon. In fact, the AK-47 per se isn't banned at all in the U.S. (except in a few backward states), but fully automatic firearms in general are regulated (not banned) in the U.S.
It seems the anti's now have even the U.S. Marine Corps singing their tune. Does anyone have a snail mail address for the Commandant of the USMC? I cannot allow this to go unanswered. I really wish I could find an address for this USMC "spokesman," Sgt. Peter Walz. He needs some letters, too.
Sgt. Peter Walz said:We do not have the autopsy report, but [the AK-47] is a lethal weapon; that's why it is banned in the U.S.
