This reloading operation is getting frustrating

Somone apparently walked off with my Lee case length gauge for .243 win., so I ran down to the LGS and bought another, making this the third one I've had to replace. I'm extremely OCD about my reloading tools, so I know I didn't misplace this one, or the other two. So I get home and open the package only to discover the correct shell holder, but a .223 case length gauge. Apparently, Lee managed to incorrectly package it.

Good lord, is the aggravation ever going to end with this particular reloading operation? Yesterday a stuck case, today an incorrectly packaged trimmer gauge, dare I ask, what's next?

Back to the LGS I go.

It is little green men from outer space that take the stuff......
Sometimes they even bring it back later....:)

My reloading tools tend to multiply ...

I order things while forgetting I already had them ... at least that's the story I am telling my wife. ;)

I have multiple sets of automotive tools but that's because I forget where I put them when I need them only to find them when I am looking for some other tools!!! :banghead::D

gamestalker, I have two plastic drawer storage units on my bench and I resolved my reloading tool chasing issue by putting them in the drawers. So now I just have to open all the drawers.

I don't ever lose tools, I'm very organized, almost to a fault. I live by the rule that there's a place for everything, and everything is in it's place. Even if I quit in the middle of something, I still put everything back until I get back to it.

My problem is my youngest son who likes to help him self to my stuff. He has been borrowing & losing multiple tools of mine for the last 15 years. I resorted to locking things up 7 or 8 years ago, but he finds a way to by pass my security measures. He'll usually leave me a note "Hey pops, I really needed this or that, so I picked the lock, bring it back Tuesday". But I either never get it back cause he looses it, or when I do it's either broken or filthy. This is a guy that will leave several thousands dollars worth of hunting and shooting gear, spotting scopes, even guns in his unlocked truck, with the keys in the ignition. Which by the way, he has had two vehicles stolen. And then he asks, why do they always steal my vehicle? I just want to grab him sometimes and shake some common sense into him, but at almost 30 yrs. old, I think it's a hopeless cause.

Then again, I do live in the middle of no man land, so it could be really big pack rats taking some of these things, ya right!

Your case gauge rolled off your bench and joined the fugitive pile of mismatch socks, fingernail clippers and reading glasses

Probably T1000 came back from the future and, uh, took it.

That's the most likely scenario, and not one you can do a whole lot about...

Do you own a very large hydraulic press?

After my little girl learned to walk I had to keep the reloading room locked up 24-7 or there is too much temptation available for her.

Out in the shop I just keep a "boundary layer" of stuff to keep the fasteners in the nut and bolt bin out of her reach or she try's to "sort" them for me.

Change the locks on all your doors and get a burgler alarm. Get Good Securty Type Locks not the cheapo ones.

Sounds like the reloading gods are telling you you don't need a calibre specific case length gauge. You can lock your verniers to 2.045" and use 'em as a gauge.
"...a hopeless cause..." It'll stop when you stop lending him stuff.

I have the same "tool morals" as Gamestalker. As a lifelong machinist/mechanis tools are an integral part of makin' my living. My last job lasted 25 years and I never lost a tool. Tools are used, cleaned, and put back where they belong...

No matter how well you child proof your home they always seem to get in.

Take as long as you need:D

When ever I "lose" something I search and curse for hours and get myself in a frenzy. I then ask my Wife and she takes 30 seconds and Says" Oh you mean this thing"??

They have a 6th or 7th sense about finding stuff.:)

My wife does the same thing!!!

I just can't bring myself to ask her unless I am really desperate. :D

Same here. I even bought my son a nice rollaway tool chest for HIS tools and last time, he locked up the tool chest and lost the keys! So once again, we had to use my tools and he borrows tools he does not have.

Considering all the stuff of mine he loses or breaks, he also does some amazing things for me, so I guess I shouldn't complain to much. This year alone he gave me 2 Rem 870's, just because he wanted to do something for his pop's. I also have a really nice Darton speed bow, just because he wanted to upgrade me from the old out dated PSE I've been using for 10 yrs..

I just get a little frustrated when I need something, and it's not where it belongs, or it's missing entirely. I have 5 awesome son's, each with their own little quirks, but I'm sure there's things I do that irritate them as well.

In the overall scheme of "Life" a lost LEE trimming thingy is not a major issue.:D

I'm sorry to say that I know that feeling. I just got my new Dillon 650 2 weeks ago. Of course I was stoked to get rolling but they only sent half of my stuff on the first go.

After some research and phone calls I got the rest of it only to break a little plastic collar off of the powder reset bar within the first 5 minutes. (stupid move on my part).

Got the new part Monday afternoon... it showed up while I was on a job that was going to keep me out of my reloading room for 4 or 5 days.

I feel your frustration:(

That is your job, not supposed to be best friends all the time. When my little one tells me "I'm not your best friend anymore!" I smile that I was at least considered her best friend at one point and that I am doing my job as a father. I also have comfort that she does not have the memory of her mother...

Now GS, if you lived by the principal of "a pile for everything and everything in it's pile" as I do, you would know where everything is, but no one else would have the vaguest idea of where to find anything! :neener:

^^^^:D I am right there with you on that one.

I have had several "friends" try to help themselves to things around the yard/garage only to give up in frustration and leave empty handed. The elderly next door neighbor watches things like a hawk and calls me with a description and license tag number whenever someone odd shows up nosing around. Then I will casually mention that they were snooping and did they find whatever they were looking for the next time I run into them.:p They usually think that I have security cameras all over.:D She is a godsend. Funny thing is if they asked me up front I would usually give them what they wanted and tell them in which pile/outbuilding the gem was located.:banghead:

"a pile for everything and everything in it's pile"

There is also the random distribution method of storing things.
Since I can’t remember where I put it half the time if I put it anyplace in the general vicinity of where it needs to be I have the same probability of finding it in the same amount of time as if I actually put it someplace specific and try to remember where…..:D
