Thoughts on SIG 232 vs PPK?

The P232s are very nice guns. If I were going to purchase a .380, that would be the one (perhaps with the DAK trigger). It is on the large side for a .380 pocket pistol . . . in fact, it's about the same size as a Mak. It also has that Euro-butt mag release that bothers most Americans (although I like the idea on a pocket pistol). You have the option of getting the alloy/stainless model that offers corrosion resistance and light weight. They're all made in Germany, too, which may be a pro or a con, depending on your point of view.

The new PPK/S-1 that S&W makes under license seems like a real improvement over the old Interarms-licensed guns. The triggers seem considerably nicer (on the basis of dry-firing only; I've never fired one) and the extension of the frame to prevent "Walther-bite" is something that should have been incorporated long ago. The Walther is only presently available in stainless, though, so it's fairly heavy (if wonderfully flat and comfy for pocket carry). 100% made in the US of A, too.

Both are accurate, although I suspect the better triggers on the SIG-Sauers would give them the edge in practical accuracy. Caliber, of course, is a "con" for both the PPK/S-1 and the P232. You can find quite a few 9x19s and even some .40s that are the same size, and .45s that are not a ton bigger. If you're going to go for .380, go for FMJ to ensure the penetration is adequate.

I belive Erich about said it all. I don't like the mag release on the 232, that is my main problem with the pistol. My self I own a older Interarms PPK/s that has been perfect in every way.Carry most everwere. But I not so sure about the S&W type. If you can handle the mag release I'd go with the 232.:) Or go look at a Kahr if you want more power 9or40.

I've had two 230s and now have a P232SL, the stainless version. I've also owned a bunch of the ppks. I kept buying the ppk's hoping to get one that was reliable. After all, 007 trusted them! IMHO the Sig 230/232 series are at least as accurate and far more reliable.

While it aint as pretty, i still think the bersa 380 beats both hands down.

First off, it has a standard mag release, and an external slide release. PLus it is smaller... therefor, IMHO it beats the Sig.

Second, it is reliable. So it beats the ppk:p

Third, its WAY cheaper than both of them...and just as accurate as both, as far as i have been able to tell.

I will give you, however, that the sig 232 is probably the sexiest looking pistol on the market. So the sig beats the bersa in drop dead gorgeousness.

However, the satin nickle bersa aint a TOTAL slouch in the looks department either.

Greeting's Folk's-

In all fairness, we have a InterArms Walther PPK made under
license of Carl Walther Waffenfabrik of Germany by Ranger
FireArms of Gadsden, AL that has been totally 100 per cent
reliable with all types of ammo; including JHP's. Not too say
that the SIG P232 isn't a better gun; but too add that MY
Walther PPK deserves a fair shake among quality .380's.

Heck, for the price its kind'a hard to beat the Bersa Thunder
Duotone .380 ACP.

Best Wishes,

it seems as if Walther ppk reliability is a hit or miss deal.

If its a hit, they are a super pistol.

Two years ago I bought a Bersa .380: Very accurate, very dependable (not one problem in over 1500 rnds), nice to carry, comfortable to shoot, its now my wife's bedroom shelf pistol.

This past July I bought a Sig 232: Very accurate, very dependable, comfortable to shoot, incredible workmanship and refinement, don't carry it 'cause I want to keep it nice. It protects my downstairs desk room.

Last winter I bought a S&W PPK/s: Beautiful to look at, a horror to shoot. Jams and misfires along with hand stinging (and lacerating) recoil caused it to last 200 rnds and three weeks.

My recommendation is don't hesitate to buy a Sig 232. If cost is an issue then I would agree with arinvolvo.
