OK gang,
It appears that the February match did not have much participation. It also turns out that I will be out of town for the next week. So...I don't have much time to generate a new match for March. But, instead of leaving you high and dry ,I decided we would re-run a match from last year. I'll post this now so you can get a start on it a little early.

The match is Shoot til' 75 match. If you follow this link it will take you to the rules posting from last year which also includes a link to a pdf file of the target.

We will run it just as before but will use the new classes(including airgun):
PISTOL STOCK CLASS - Standard pistols with barrels 6" or less
PISTOL IMPROVED - Pistols with significant improvements from out-of-the-box or pistols with barrels more than 6".
PISTOL SCOPED - Any scoped pistol
RIFLE STOCK CLASS - Standard rifles with iron sights
RIFLE SCOPED - Any scoped rifle
AIRGUN PISTOL- unscoped airgun
AIRGUN RIFLE - unscoped air rifle

Only ONE target per class this month but you can shoot as many different classes as you wish.

NoBite
Pistol Scoped: Ruger Mark II w/red dot
Three shots to 75

NOTE: you will see four shots on the target! I shot @ the 50 with my first shot and missed. (-5) I hit the 50 on my second shot. (45) I hit the 30 on my third shot. (75) Due to a brain fart, I thought I still needed 10 points and shot the 10 with shot #4. Once I re-did the math, I realized I did not need shot #4. If the judges toss this out, I will gladly reshoot it.

NoBite
Pistol Stock Class: S&W mod 586 w/6" barrel, shooting .357 MAG
Five shots to 75. Pretty simple strategy. Four shots in the 20 and one in the white.

NoBite
Rifle Stock Class: AR-15 w/ 16" barrel, iron sights
Ten shots to 75. Ugly!
I don't recall the sequence, but ended up with five in the 20 and 5 in the white!

NoBite
Stock Shotgun Class: Rem 870 w/ rifle sights; Ammo: 00 Buckshot
Shots to 75: four
Note: I never did get to 75. Just wanted to try this for fun!

First time with the Virtual Match...Love the idea! :D

Pistol Scoped: Browning Buckmark 5.5 w/red dot
Shots to 75: 4 (2x30, 1x20, 1x-5)

Pistol Stock: Beretta 92FS Brigadier
Shots to 75: 5 (4x20, 1x-5)

Workin' on pics

I started early this month. Should have a couple more enties as it gets warmer.

What can I say, I didn't want to give up on the 50, and once I hit it I needed another 50 to get above 75, then needed an INTENTIONAL miss to get under 80. And you thought yours was ugly No Bite. BTW, a couple kind of nicked the edge of the 50 ring but I counted those as misses.

Inspired by No Bite's newly invented shotgun class, I put up another target to sight in my new (to me) shotgun. You may have noticed the holes are slightly larger. These were the first shots I have ever put through this gun. Full disclosure: It was at 25 yards, like the rifle, but I used a makeshift rest. I was sighting it in after all.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong with these pictures? I'm no Oleg, but the pictures are way better than what you see here. I reduced them so it wouldn't stretch the page out too far. Is that it?

Griz - I applaud your efforts and pictures. It sure pays to keep a sense of humor, doesn't it!

Regarding the pictures, I'm not sure what to tell you. I use TinyPic. It's a website where you upload a picture from your HD. Then, it hosts the picture and gives you the URL to paste into your message on this forum. It automatically scales the picture to the size of the ones you've seen from me. I am at work right now. When I get home, I'll get the website addy and post it here for you.

Thanks in advance No Bite, I'll try it. I've posted high rez full size pics before, but they are hugh, so maybe your way will work better.

Effort? Well maybe a little, but it's mostly fun.
I knew going in that:
1. It would be safer to skip the 50 after the first miss.
2. Practice helps.

I choose to ignore both. :D

Little Loudmouth and I shot the "Shoot To 75" match this afternoon with my air rifle. It's a four and a half pound Russian-made rifle, short with peep sights. It a NZK-60 (or something like that) Cyrillic letters are an enigma to me. We shot at nine yards because that's all the distance we can get without remodeling the basement.

LL took five shots to make 75 points. He hit the 30 once, missed once, hit the 20 twice and the 10 once.

I took seven shots to make 75 points. I missed the 50 circle twice, hit the 30 twice, the 20 once, the 10 once, and shot an intentional miss to bring the total to 75. Grr!

Some interesting entries to this months match so far.

Nobite - Shotgun with buckshot? What are you thinking? You will truely be "in a class by yourself".
By the way, your "brain fart" on your scoped pistol entry is technically incomplete. You have 85 points. Brain farts are part of the game this month. To get to 75 you would need another 2 intentional misses. We can call them 'gimmes' and set the score at 6.

Griz - The term "target fixation" comes to mind. 11 misses to get that 50 point circle. You need to learn when to give up!

Also, shots that knick the edge of the line (breaking the outside of the thicker line) would normally be counted as hits.

Keep at it guys. Looks like you are having fun this month.

You're right, I should have given up on the 50 right off. But once I had missed three times I realized I was out of the running and I was just shooting for fun. It would have been different if I had counted the first "nick" as a hit, but it was still a couple shots into the debacle so we're not talking a huge swing. Oh well, the good news is I was holding steadier by the 13th shot! :)

Photo_guy - will I be allowed to resubmit an entry for the Pistol Scoped category? I'd like to do so.

:p The shotgun class was just for grins, of course. I hadn't shot for a pattern with that particular load and just wanted to see what would happen at 25 yards. It's a lot tighter pattern at a more normal "conversation" distance!

Photo_guy - will I be allowed to resubmit an entry for the Pistol Scoped category? I'd like to do so.

NoBite, If this were a contest for real prizes I'd say the answer is no. The rules are one target per class and it would not be fair to everyone else.

However, since this is for "fun" I will leave it up to you. Your call.

BTW - I suspect there are people out there that shoot targets and don't even post results when they are bad. I really appreciate those of you that are willing to 'put it all out there' and even post your bad targets.
It also fun to see some of your...uh....experiments...like using the shotgun when there is no way it will be a good score. Very entertaining.

No problem with that. It's my foggy brain and I try to learn to live with it. :banghead:

Hey, I got a new rifle last week, a Marlin 1894C, and I can't wait to put it into our competition! These contests are lots of fun. Especially when we "experiment"!

ACP230 and I went to the indoor range at Michigan Tech last night and shot some more match scores. Here they are.

My score:

Name: Little Loudmouth
Class: Pistol Scoped
Gun: S&W M41 .22 with Ultradot red dot scope
Shots to 75: 8

ACP230's scores:

Name: ACP230
Class: Pistol Stock
Gun: S&W M57 .41 Magnum, 4" barrel
Shots to 75: 11

ACP230
Pistol Improved
S&W M657 .41 Magnum, 8 3/8" barrel
Shots to 75: 5

ACP230
Pistol Scoped
S&W M41 .22 with Ultradot red dot scope
Shots to 75: 5

I would have shot more classes, but the MTU Pistol Club has a rule that anyone who hasn't qualified for at least 5th Bar on the NRA Qualification course can't shoot any pistols over .22 caliber, and then we ran out of time before I could borrow another one of their .22 pistols.

Well, I shot probably all the targets I'll get the chance to this month, so I'll go ahead and post them now.

Did anyone else have a hard time seeing the 50 ptr at 25 yards?
I was shooting with irons and that totally changed my strategy.
Maybe it's just my eyes :scrutiny: .

Better late than never. I nailed the 50, barely clipped the thirty and the miss was easy.

SCORES FOR THR VIRTUAL MATCH - FEB 2005

Mark whiz was the overall leader again this month; he is the man to beat.

NoBite gets the "Brain Fart & Honesty" awards for apparently not being able to keep track of his score during the match but being a stand-up guy and admitting his error.

NoBite also gets the "I don't care how crazy this sounds, I'm going to try it anyway" award for trying this months target using a shotgun with no hope of getting a decent score. We ask "why?"; he asks "why not?".
