Time to go on the Offensive?

I was thinking about this yesterday and today and wanted to get some opinions on it.

With the 'gun control debate' in the public eye right now and opinion turning our way, should the NRA take on a more active role with PR.

I work at a large univesity. One idea I had was to approach the NRA to ask if they would be willing to set up an informational table in the student union for a day or two. To give some no-nonsense information on gun rights, the 2nd A, self defense, responsible gun ownership and such.

Would this be a good idea? In some ways I think it would, but I could see it having the very real potential to go badly, too.

If you think this is a good idea, what would be the best way to get the NRA involved?

I think it would be a great idea. I am a college student as well, and many of my fellow classmates are ignorant about gun rights and the second amendment in general

I think the biggest problem is many kids are now raised without ever handing a firearm in their lives. Many of my friends have never held real guns! :banghead: Anything to get people interested in our sport, or spread truthful information, is a plus in my book.

So to everyone: take someone shooting! I try to introduce people as often as I get the chance to

Hell yes, I think it's a great idea. The anti-gunners are starting to get overwhelmed by us. We need to take every opportunity possible to educate the masses on the 2A and self-defense. People are starting to think again, lets do everything we can to keep it going. God speed.

Not the NRA... Is there a student shooting team, something like that? Do a "Firearms Safety" table. This may be good down the road, but right now, you're liable to run into knee-jerkin' screamin' and cryin' hoplophobes...

But overall right now, I think that if every college student on THR spent a half-case of their beer money on some printer ink, paper, and photocopies, and did a little bulletin-boarding with some of Oleg's recent images, that would have a LOT more effect.

I completely agree that the NRA should take the offensive right now. We just had a shooting that could not have been stopped by any sort of gun control law. I hate to sound cold-hearted, but we need to use it to our advantage to repeal other gun laws. It would be a great thing if we could start repealing gun laws and get the Democrats on defense, instead of having us always be on defense.

My buddy is the rifle team coach. If we could get some brochures and otehr handouts from teh NRA and have the rifle team kids man the booth, that might work. I'll run it by my friend tomorrow.

Talked to my friend this morning. They do some PR and awareness raising activities from time to time but he said that now isn't a good time because finals week is coming up soon and as much as the kids want to do things like that, he insists that their schoolwork comes first.

Now, remember that it's a LOT easier to pamphlet the bulletin boards - Give everyone 10 copies each of a few of Oleg's recent images, and get 'em up around campus...
