Today was my last day waiting in line for ammo.

The only time I stood in line was to pay for ammo or wait for the Walmart clerk to find a key to the case.

I shoot two rounds a lot, .22LR and 9mm. I shoot a decent amount of .223 and 5.45. All the others, .45, .380., .38 and such I don't blow through so I had a little and was able to replenish everything by getting lucky at Walmart from time to time.

Guess which two rounds disappeared? .22 and 9mm of course. Fortunately I went into January with over 15k rounds of .22 and about 2,500 rounds of 9mm. I "sold" 1k rounds of 9mm to the Sheriff's department so they could have their "ladies" clasees once a month. The people wanting to take the classes could not find any ammo. I was also able to pick up a box of 9mm here and there so I am still over 1k rounds of 9mm in hand. I am down to about 6k rounds of .22 with 1k of those being a round I am a bit scared of right now. I bought 250 rounds from PSA last week but still have not seen a brick anywhere locally since December.

The ammo supply seems rather sparodic in nature. We see 22lr out here at least twice a week at our local Academys. Granted its not at the level that meets the demand but if you show up early enough and wait for the store to open you will end up some 22lr. If you want to shoot that is pretty much what you have to do for ammo.

Yesterday was a case in point. The first 5 in line walked out with two of the 1400 count buckets of 22lr and the rest (10) walked out with two 525 count boxes of 22lr. If you showed up at 9am you didn't get any bulk 22lr. All they had left were 50 count boxes of 22lr. Being first in line meant I had a choice whereas coming in at 9am or later meant I didn't have a choice. I like having choices. I don't like setteling for scraps.

I have never seen, no less waited, on a line to get ammo. Ever. It must be worse than it seems as alotta people who just want (vs. need) ammo won't do it either. My heart goes out to you guys...

As I can only shoot .22lr for prolonged periods due to injury, I shoot a lot of rimfire, just make sure to buy it by the case when its available. The cost has definitely gone up, but its the only way I can train and remain proficient. I can not shoot more than a couple of cylinders from centerfire ammo. Luckily my guns aren't as picky about what I feed them. I just buy bulk packs when I can find them.
