The two cans of Romanian 8mm on strippers I ordered from AIM Surplus arrived today and I wound up taking an impromptu ammo inventory as I tried to find a place to put it. It turns out I have:

.30-'06 - about 1,000 rounds of CMP USGI M2 ball. Some in clips and bandoliers in cans, some in clips in cans, most in cartons. There's also the 300 or so rounds of FN made ball on .30 MG links. I also have a couple of loose loaded bandoliers and one partially loaded cartridge belt. I'm probably set for awhile, but I should buy more from the CMP while they have it, just on general principles.

7.62 Nato RG- I'm still working on the case of Radway Green I bought a few years back. I've probably got 600 or so rounds left from the 1,000 round case. The ammos in 20 round boxes that unfortunately were sliced open for inspection at some point. I was able to empty out a partial 280 round can of .30 - '06 by consolidating two cans. This allowed me to fill the can with 280 rounds of the 7.62 RG. The rest filled out the empty half of a 5,000 case of .22 Federal I bought from the CMP. There's still some odd 20 round boxes here and there, but most of it's now in one place.

7.62 Nato Australian - I have two 200 round cans of ball on strippers in bandoliers. I was going to buy another can or two, but it appears to have dried up. Anyone got any leads?

.30 Carbine - One 1080 round can of GI ball in stripper clips in bandoliers, minus one bandolier, and one can of 1350 rounds of GI ball in cartons, minus about 100 rounds. If the CMP ever gets any more .30 Carbine, I should buy more.

5.45 Russian - Most of a 1,000 round case of commercial ammo. I need to find a can to repack it in.

.303 Brit - Two 50 round bandoliers of Brit ball on strippers from AIM surplus a few years back. Another 50 rounds of S&B.

6.5x55 Swede - 80 round of Igman commercial I just bought from AIM. About 120 strippers in boxes to go with it. I should get some surplus while it's still around.

I'm not even going to get into the handgun ammo. I shoot that more and tend to burn through and restock more quickly anyway, so inventory is always a problem. I know I have 150 + rounds of Federal 9BP 9mm and at least a box or two of .38 +P HP's and a partial box of 124 gr .357's. The target stuff I buy as needed from Sprawl Mart.

So, what's in your ammo locker?

Off the top of my head....

5-6k 8mm
2-3k x51
2-3k x39
1k x54 surplus
1300 7.5 French
500ish .303
Assorted pistol ammo

Probably 200 rounds 7.62x54R surplus, 350 rounds 40, (don't own one anymore), 30 12 gauge, (don't have one of them either), and who know, oh, 400-500 9mm, mostly my reloads? Something like that. No, add 200 WalMart JHP 9mm Remington and Winchester....

Of the 9 calibers I stock, only a few are UNDER 1000 rounds. 12 gauge, .303 brit, and .30-30

And actually if you leave out the shotgun ammo, I only have 80 rounds of .303 and 120 or so of .30-30.

It's a shame with the .303 though, because I really like the No4Mk1 but I can't afford to shoot it often. And when I shoot it I always end up with only 20 rounds of .303 left at all, and that's only due to self-restraint.

Last time I counted I was off by about 3000 rounds, and I realized I have not been replacing the .22 I've been shooting.

Hmm... off the top of my head, I would guess:

1500+ rds of 5.56
180 rds x51 (Aussie surplus... need more)
800 rds x39
approx 200rds each of 9, .40, and 10mm

I guess thats about it. Time to go ammo shopping soon. :D

Being without a lot of money, all I have is 260 rds 30-06 (Korean surplus) and 100 rds 30-06 USGI blacktip, about 800 rds .22lr, 50 slugs, 100 birdshot (both 12ga)

Modest, but all I really need.

What use is a gun with no ammo :p

.22 14,000
9mm 4,000
.45 1600
.38 450
.357 100
.30-06 1376
.308 6640
.30-30 320

About 1400 of 7.62x51 (want to have 2500)
About 350 of 7.62x39 (want to have 2K+)
About 400 9mm (want to have 1500)
About 80 .380 (want to have 500)
About 40 .357 JHP (want about 500)
About 100 12ga (want to have about 500)
Maybe a brick or so of .22lr. (want another 3 bricks or so)

Its funny, I look at that number, and I actually get a little nervous, since I feel it is pretty low.

But I have talked to a good friend, and he has a revolver/carbine combo in .44mag, and I think he might have had just a couple hundred rounds total.

I just did an impromptu inventory of the reloading supplies...

-Powder, plenty
-bullets, plenty,
-cases, plenty,
-primers--need to buy some more large rifles primers. $16 should do it.

And need to reload some more 7.5 Swiss for the K-31, and some more .17 wildcats. The whistle pigs have needed thinning, lately.

hmm, about:

2-3K .22 lr
500+ .38
100-200 .357
200 7.62x54r
40 .20 guage
200-300 misc. .45acp, .308, .223, stuff I don't have guns for.

But, I also have 2000 primers, a couple bottles of powder, and a press, so when I run low, I make more. :)

Right now I'm trying to build up my .38/.357 stock, then I'll move to .45acp (as well as get a gun for it), and go from there....

What's your best load? (for the K-31)

I posted a couple of loads in the Handloading & Reloading forum here.

Another good load is:

-.284Win brass resized
-CCI 200 Large Rifle Primer
-42gr. IMR 4064
-Speer 150gr. Spitzer
-COL of 2.88??? If my ol' memory serves. It'll be the same length as the H335 load in the thread.

I have a rule that anytime I go in Wally World or my local gunshop, I buy ammo. This is what I shoot. I have a stash of "untouchable" ammo that is for WTSHTF. This is 5000 rounds of 9mm,5000 rounds of 7.62X39, 1000 rounds of 12 gauge #OO buckshot, 10000 rounds of .22 lr, and 1000 rounds of
.30-06. This ammo gets rotated and replaced regularly.
