Took an impromptu ammo inventory today

About like Bridger. If ammo sales had stopped today, I'd still have enough ammo or components for the rest of my life (I'm sixty). However, I wouldn't be able to take up skeet, and I'd have to be a little careful with my .22 match ammo.

I don't have nearly as much of some calibers as I should. My stock of .45ACP, for example, is down to one magazine's worth. Just one. :(

On the other hand, considering that my go-to combo for the SHTF consists of revolvers and lever guns chambered for the .357 Magnum, I'm well stocked in that department. I've also got plenty of .38 Special on hand as well.

My 9mm supply, on the other hand, is down to about 100 rounds. Need to visit Wally World soon.

poor college student here

500 .22LR
150 .22WMR
50 9x18 makarov
10 9x19 (yes, only 10, not 10k or 10 boxes, just 10)
200 7.62x54R
150 8x57

oh and
1 5.56x45

14 22lr
40 223
37 357
50 38sp
200 12g
200 9mm
20 45
20 30-06
25 270
30 243
20 22-250
50 20g
30 16g
20 10g

i am forever hurting for ammo, we kinda buy on the way to shoot it. thank god im just getting into reloading. i'd like to get about a 1000 rounds of brass for each caliber. eventually i'd like to have a 1000 rounds loaded then additional brass and stuff on hand.

maybe after college when i move out.

Rough guesstimate...

30-'06 150 rds
12 ga 500 rds
45 ACP 1500 rds
357 mag 200 rds
38 spl 500 rds
9mm 3000 rds
22 LR 22000 rds

The 22 LR isn't a misprint. A local store had the Remington 525-rd Golden Bullet bulk packs on sale for $5 a box. There was not limit so I just bought out their whole inventory (50 boxes). I've gone through about 8 boxes so far.

They put limits on their ultra-sale items now.

Just guessing, since I'm at work:

500 .17HMR
9000 .22 lr
800 .223 Rem.
100 22-250
30 25-06
50 .270 AI
450 30 Carbine
30 30-30 Win.
20 .303 Savage
800 30-06
60 32 Win Spl.
130 .32 ACP
600 38 Special
150 .380
1000 .45 ACP (+15000 primers and 10 lbs of powder, need bullets)
100 7mm IHMSA
100 .44 Mag.
300 12 ga.
Plus odds and ends of stuff that I don't have guns for, and a boatload of reloading components.

I haven't been reloading for several months. I need to get busy. :uhoh:

A couple of weeks ago my wife decided to do a little "spring cleaning" in the closets so I stacked all my pistol ammo up in one place:

I have about 15,000 rounds of 7.62 x 51 (.308) in my basement, 11,000 of which is Portuguese. Do you think that's enough? ;)

Hey - my inventory revealed a 20-round box of .32 Win Special I must have picked up by mistake. If anyone wants it, PM me. If shipping is fairly cheap, I'll ship it to you just so I don't take it hunting by mistake.

Other than that - we're light. Around 200 rounds for the pistols (.45 (2), 9mm, and .38) and 100 each for the rifles. And 8 BILLION rounds of .22 LR. :D

Hey - can't stock up too much - we move a lot.

Let me see...

.223 (no gun for it yet)....................................80
.45 ACP (no gun for it yet)...............................50
6.5x55........................................................140(+/-)
7.62x54R (but the Mosin's missing an extractor)...35
.40 S&W......................................................150
.22lr............................................................525
12ga...........................................................105
7.62x39.....................................................1260(+/-)

Many of these numbers will be zero after tomorrow, though... :uhoh:

I have too much problem with wanting to buy practice rounds and heading to the range rather than actually building a stock-pile.

That said:

-.45 ACP - 15 rounds Federal Hydra-Shok 165-gr. JHP
-.38 spl. - 24 rounds Hornady 125-gr. JHP/XTP

Boy, do I suck! :D

Add another 20 rounds of 45/70 and 500 more rounds of .22LR

Southwest Ammo Supply in Mesquite has the PMC 45/70 load that mirrors the 450 Marlin load for sale and in stock at only $17.25 and Wolf Match Target .22LR for $29 a brick. :D

12 ga.
50 Remington slugs.
100 Reduced Recoil Tact. Buckshot.

All the above are readliy available, or will be again in time (such as the IMI M193/M855) when conditions permit. But two types of ammo look to be all the more scare as time passes:

Aussie F4 - is drying up rapidly at this point. Australia's loss is(was) our gain. It's some of the finest ammunition I have ever had opportunity to buy and shoot. I don't think we'll see the likes of it upon our shores anytime soon. I'm glad I bought as much as I could.

Swiss GP11 - I own a couple of K31s, but only really shoot one, albeit infrequently, due to the price and rarity of ammunition (I don't reload). Who knows how much GP11 the Swiss government still has squirreled away? I figure not all that much at this point. 900rds of GP11 should hold me in good stead for as long as I own my K31s. Especially considering the reports that Wolf will be selling 7.5x55 (brass cased & boxer primed) come this May or June. It probably won't be of the same high quality as GP11, but it should be cheaper and ensure a supply of ammunition for the K31s for years to come.

Hmmm...copper-jacketed, boat-tailed dust bunnies? Check.

I'm taking a break from rearranging my ammo shelf right now.

7.62x54r- 900 rounds (incl 80 soft points)
7.62x39- 844 (+/-)
.45acp- 600 rounds

And may god forgive me but I have commited the most grave sin any ammunition packrat could commit, I have let myself run out of .22lr!
What form of self-imposed punishment shall I submit myself to? This must never happen again! :banghead:
