Top 3 handguns that you regret buying, and top 3 that you regret selling!

selling: I had a Mint 6 inch nickel Python in 1980 that I sold. I still regret that. In fact I sold all my guns over a period of a few years to finance marriage and school. Also in that regretful group: a 6 inch Security Six and a High Standard pump 12 gauge that was in really nice shape.

buying: a Taurus PT22 I bought from a friend’s aging relative seven years ago for too much money. It fell apart immediately but I was the one that made the buy and I sure am not complaining to a nice old lady or my friend. Still in the safe—I can’t really sell it to someone knowing it is just a parts collection masquerading as a firearm. Really all the others, even the ones I didn’t care for and sold, I don’t regret because they taught me things about guns, my preferences, and my abilities (few) and shortcomings (many).

What is this “sell” of which you speak? Once I buy a firearm I just can’t seem to part with it. One exception I am contemplating is an ANIB Nickel S&W Model 559, still pristine. I just don’t care for nickel firearms, so this might be the one regret in buying.

I don't regret buying any because I only buy guns I like. While I buy guns to flip sometimes I normally don't sell guns from my personal collection. Last time was in the late 70's and I still kick myself over it. It was a S&W 39 in factory nickel that I bought brand new. I sold it because 9 mm was $9 a box which was a lot of money at the time. I still have the nickel .38 I replaced it with because the ammo was half the price of 9.

Regret buying? A POJ CA Mag Pug. What a mistake that was. Regret selling? A WW2 surplus Colt .45.

The top three (or 4 maybe 5) that I regret buying,,,
Were all older/vintage H&R or Iver Johnson .22 revolvers.

Honestly I bought them for their looks and aesthetic appeal,,,
They all had an Victorian Era/Art Deco look to them that I found attractive.

I really wasn't expecting S&W or Colt performance levels from them,,,
Minute of Soup Can at 25 yards would have suited me just fine.

But even the ones that showed very little use/wear were disappointing shooters,,,
Recently I got rid of most of them and have learned my lesson.

No more low-tier handguns for me,,,
Especially revolvers.

Regret buying is a strong word but I was very happy to sell my S&W 642. Never could grow to like that horrible trigger (admittedly, an Apex trigger kit did help quite a bit) hand slapper.

No regrets- The J frame 38 revolver.( had a few over the years)I never liked shooting them. and The 1st gen.S&W bodyguard380 w/laser. ////Junk!
Regrets- The S&W model 19 combat masterpiece 357 magnum. Great gun. nice blue job. i should have never sold it.
The S&W 3913 9mm. I thought it was too small. Damn I would love to have one now for CCW

Serious regret of buying a Walther P22, thing was a total pos, the least reliable gun I’ve ever seen. It made Jennings and Bryco look good.

Regret selling a Colt 1991 and an AMT Backup in .40 S&W.
