I recently acquired a Glock 22 2nd gen used (there seem to be a lot out there on the secondary market) but I just can't seem to bond with it. I own a 1911 (Kimber) I love and a P250 I like.

Thinking of trading the 22 towards a P226, but sticking with the .40 as I do like the round. Any pros/cons I should know about? Anyone say no, keep the Glock?

I'm not a LEO or anything, just a shooter. Use a .38 snub for CCW, and just like shooting the heavier metal-frame guns.

I say keep the glock 22. I had a sig pistol but had some extractor problems and sold it. I bought a glock with the left over cash and fell in love with it. The glocks do take some time to "bond" with, But once i got used to mine i loved it more than pistols that cost twice its price.

how long have you had your glock? Some people never really get them mastered.

Let me preface this one by saying that I once had a CZ 75B in .40 S&W, and although I really liked the ergonomics of the CZ, I never developed a real fondness for .40 S&W. I think I'd rather have the Sig P226, however I would want to see if I could test one out at the range before I committed to a purchase for another .40 S&W semiauto, if possible. Sig P226's in .40 S&W are available for rental at 2 of the indoor ranges I frequent. Just a suggestion and YMMV - skeeter_08

Both the G22 and the P226 are good guns. However the glock has a lot more accessories/ holsters available for it. So it your an accessorizer you might be giving something up there.

Which of your choices do you shoot best?

All the sidearms you've mentioned are good ones.

After many years of shooting experience I'm partial to Sig products...

Beretta, BHP, HK, are also good choices.

Good luck and let us know what you decide. :)

If it were me I would install a 4.5# Glock disconnector, perform a .25c trigger job and live happy with the Glock. I can't stand DA/SA guns and can imagine how the trigger difference would hinder a self defense senario. After breaking the double action shot, then the shooter has to transition back to single action is too much to ask for under stress. That is the deal braker with the Sig.

Thanks for the advice. Coltman, the guns I shoot best with are the 1911 (45 ACP), Beretta 92, and the Ruger Mk II. I'm able to keep all in the center ring with those at 20 yards. The 250 and Glock tend to be a bit more spread out. I think DA triggers are a little tricky for me, and I'm not so comfortable with the Glock trigger.

Sharp, I've shot 500 rounds through the Glock, had it three months so far. Had an XD before, and traded that after 6 months. I may just not be able to get comfortable with the striker-fired pistol class.

Mostly, I'm looking for a 40 I shoot better with. Skeeter's advice is good too -- I plan on using a range gun 226 if they have one in 40 to compare the glock to.

IMO, the P226 is one of the best .40's and the Glocks are among the worst.

The DA/SA transition becomes second nature pretty quickly.

Trade.

Thanks for all the help!

Well, I took the plunge and got the SIG 226 in .40 (with the excellent SIG night sights). Heavy gun, but fantastic shooter. A bit more controllable than the Glock, and much more accurate for me. The DA/SA is very similar to my Beretta, and the gun reminded me a little of my 1911 as well.

Thank you all who chimed in with advice. You all helped me make a great purchase! :)

Congratulations on the new pistol. I had a glock 17 that I really tried to like but it didn't work for me either. Glocks are great guns but they aren't for everybody. Mark

Yeah, I wanna see it. I would've definitely recommended the SIG, as I've developed quite a liking for DA/SA guns.

Get a .357SIG barrel for the P226 it's like 2 pistols for 180 bucks more! Use the same magazines for both, hope you got the Tritium night sights, and no rail.

here's the pic

Sorry for the blurry cellphone pic. It's a 226R with Siglight night sights -- very good ones. With the small light it feels a perfect home defense pistol. Ordered two Mec-gar mags from Topgun. Came with only one mag.

Noticed that the plastic grips were a bit sharp on the edges, so removed them and used some steel wool to remove the flash -- a little better now. Maybe I need to replace them with Hogue rubber panels?
