I have a new Remington 700 .243 with the X-Mark Pro trigger that will not adjust lower than 5 lbs. I think I just need to pitch it and replace it with a Timney. I have a Shilen and a Timney in each of 2 other Remington 700s. They both work fine. My question for you guys: Regarding the Timney, is the additional $75 for the Calvin Elite ($225) over the standard "Reminghton 700 with safety" ($150) worth it? These are Brownell prices. I'll appreciate your help. Tom

Hello Tom,
I have a new CDL in 243. The stock trigger came down to just on 3lbs, Im going to try a little polishing and a good lube, ill let you know how I get on.

I actually really like the Xmark Pro Triggers, as factory triggers go they are some of my favorites, they have all the adjustments i want. Just an FYI they have 2 trigger return springs, specifically so that if you turn the spring in the trigger too far out the trigger will still have tension. THIS means that depending on how they are set up at the factory (IE they just put them together and dont test pulls id bet), they will NOT reach the lower limits they are supposed to.

If you want a superlight, very short engagement, trigger pull then I would recommend replacing the trigger. While the Xmarks DO fix the original problem with the Walker trigger design, they are still looser than the after market replacements.

The timney Calvin elite is a great trigger, I have 2.... all depends on what uh ou will use it for.

For my uses the Timney 510 is the best bet. If I were to get a more expensive trigger it would be a Jewell but I've not yet found the need.

Another vote for the Timney 510 for most applications ... although I have some tuned Remington triggers (pre-X-Mark/X-Mark Pro) that are sweet.

Yeah, I've got a Walker that I traded for a pound of powder. I found a tutorial on tuning them (snipercentral, I think) and after about an hour's labor, it's nearly as good as a Timney. I'm of the position that most of the hooplah over the old Walkers was due to people screwing with them and not knowing what they were doing, last I checked the US Army still used a tuned Walker for their SWS.

The Walker trigger on my 700 ADL .270 was adjusted by a gunsmith in the late 70’s and I like it. It has never had an issue.

The Jewell is the trigger by which all other 700 triggers are measured. For good reason.

The 510 is a good trigger, the CE 2 stage a better trigger. The Jewel HVR remains to be my trigger of choice. I have a 510 in my new Seekins - was intending to put an HVR in it, but I'm happy enough for the short term, so I'll put the HVR I have into my Deviant instead.

I have the CE 2 stage trigger on my 700. I've set the triggers with a high amount of pull and it still feels lighter than the factory XMP trigger! It brooks very nicely and it's one less thing to focus on for long range shooting

I replaced a tuned Walker with a simple Rifle Basix. At the time it was the least expensive option, each one is tuned on an action before shipping, and I specified pull weight. No creep, no overtravel, and better than the Timneys I’ve used previously.

The Walker was good, a tad heavy though and would pick up grime. I cleaned it up then bagged it up for possible future use or sale.

True, the Jewell was once the best of the best, just as the Canjar was the best of the best before it. But the crown now belongs to Bix'Andy. (If a B&A rates a 10, the Jewell is a 7.) B&A now has a lower priced Sport Model that will pretty much dominate the mid-price trigger market if they can make them fast enough.

Well....after reading and thinking about all the options, I ordered another Timney. The price was quite reasonable from Optics Planet after factoring in a 10% coupon, no tax and free shipping...came in at just over $100. I'll let you know how it goes. I have some test loads ready to go when the trigger is installed and adjusted.

I have 4 Timneys, one Rifle Basix and several tuned Walker triggers.I think the Timney is the best bang for the buck, but the Walker can be worked over and made to feel about as good.I keep the Rifle Basix with my X-mark pro triggers-in ziplock bags back in the corner of my parts cabinet.
