Trouble with CMC drop in trigger Ruger AR

Out of what spec? I
They are mil spec. But if you compare different lowers you will find that some are cut a little different on the inside where the takedown pin goes.
They cannot be mil spec lowers since they are not capable of accepting an auto sear. Also "mil-spec" implies far more than simple dimensions. There is a huge battery of quality control that goes into a mil spec lower.

Well, if you have to be so technical with terms, you could just call them as close to mil spec as the government will allow. :p

True, but apparently not. If the CMC trigger does not fit in the fire control pocket of the Ruger 556 lower and its across the product line, not just this one lower (still undetermined in this thread), then Ruger is not even as close as the government would allow. The mil-spec prints for the M4 and M16 lowers are easily to find on the internet. Anyone with a Ruger 556 lower and a good set of calipers want to start measuring?

But we are also talking about a mil spec lower , let’s not get all technical in terms, and adding a non mil spec fire control group.
Ruger does not make their own lowers. They have them made. Some manufacturers have found that they can leave a little extra metal in place and still fit a mil spec trigger.

Maybe I am overthinking things here (it won't be the first time), but a lower with that much out-of-spec variance with the trigger/hammer pins would have me checking sear engagement very closely, even with the best of two piece (non-cartridge_ fire control groups/

I have a crappy, creepy, mil-spec trigger group (that was supposedly enhanced) in one lower be nice and crisp in another. It’s the trigger that constantly gets replaced and reused in the New Hotness, but it is so nice in the one it’s in that it will stay, that one needs no better.

I’m not about to go get them all out and measure tonight, but it does make me wonder how different they are...

It looks to me like the CMC will fit. I would insert front pin and pivot the assembly down.
