Trust my wife's life to a Kel-Tec?

I know some people think every 4-6 months is too long.

I'm one of them. Once every month or two would be a good idea.

Get a couple packs of dummy round so she can safety practice loading and unloading, muzzle control and trigger finger discipline at home. That and dry firing practice can take the place of some range time.

A good way for a beginner to practice is to check out the NRA Marksmanship Program and have her take herself through the requirements for the "Handgun" section.

Have her take the NRA Basic Pistol or First Steps Pistol.

My P3AT and P32 have both been 100% reliable out of the box for many hundreds of rounds. No issues at all; except the noted recoil of the P3AT. It is no fun to shoot, but it goes bang every time. Plastic, steel, ZAMAK, or a combo of all; as long as it goes bang reliably.
Those who won't "trust their lives to plastic" have not taken a close look at the world around them lately. ;)
