So far I want to get a stag arms lower with parts kit. Also the fixed stock (live in NJ) fromk stag as well. The upper is where I am stuck. I would like to get a mid length upper from BCM but can't any that are compliant. (No flash hider) Does anyone knoq of good quality upper that are NJ legal? Also what other parts do I need for this instalation? Thanks for the help

You'll also need an action spring, buffer, buffer tube, castle nut, receiver endplate, and bolt carrier group. I'm not sure if the prior products are part of your lower parts kit. Try contacting BCM to see if they can make you something.

Tools you might want to consider:

Castle Nut Wrench
Staking tool
Pliers
Electrical tape

Its a great time to build an AR considering you can pick up used rifles that sold for +$1000 a year/year and a half ago for less than $600. Have fun, its a good time.

Electrical tape
Probably a stupid question, but what's the tape for?
Thanks!

For Op: Bushmaster makes some good uppers too. Not sure about NJ requirements, but Bushmaster sells uppers w/ pinned comps and no bayo lug.

The tape is probably to cover pin/spring areas so you don't scratch up the lower.

I always like doing it without the tape, gives the guns some class to have scratches all over it. I also built my first lower at an "ar15 lower building party." It was lowers, lower parts kits, and PBR. Some insight for ya.

Bingo, specifically for the bolt catch. Apply electrical tape to the receiver and the pliers before using the pliers to squeeze the roll pin in place for the bolt catch.

Pliers are much harder than an aluminum receiver and can inflict some major damage if you're not careful.
