The NYPD in conjunction with 6 churches in Brooklyn is offering $200 for each "illegal" working rifle, shotgun, or pistol turned in at the churches. BB or pellet guns will get $20 each.

They will be doing this Sat. July 19.

They say those turning them in will remain anonymous. They will accept up to 3 guns per person.

What would I buy with $600?

The churches are in Brooklyn at:

326 Junius Ave
357 Chester St
181 NJ Ave
54 MacDonough St
484 Washington Ave
798 Stanley Ave

hmmm... three jennings bought used at $75 a piece,

$600-$225, less gas... naw, not enough money.

Now, three guns at each station, 18 guns, $3600, less $1350 initial cost..

$2250! Minus gas, of course. Would be worht it if you lived close!

SInce it's anonymous, how could they realistically limit it to 3 per person? A guy who broke into someone's home and stole an 'arsenal' could conceivably turn in 18 guns and get $3600 if he went to each of the 6 places.

Edit: I see Hank and I were thinking along similar lines.

Too bad there's no good gun places with mosin sales near me. I'd buy 18 mosins for ~$50 each and drive up to the city.

Wonder how they're planning on verifying that the turn-ins are "working"? Cap the seller? And, just what crackhead thinks the NYPD won't have plainclothes officers with radios on top of every building for six blocks in every direction? The sad part is, only misguided law-abiding citizens will turn in guns. Gangsta ain't turnin' in HIS GAT. Just exactly how stupid does drinking NYC water make a person anyway? Are all our politicians mentally retarded?

Old single-shot shotguns can go for REALLY cheap. "Working" can still be rusted up and beaten to hell.

Just a thought...

I wonder if they would pay me $200 for every crooked politician I turned in ?????

Great Idea, Shawnee. You're going to need a BIG trailer to haul them though.

Wow, wonder if I can convince people to sell me "unregistered" working guns at my church office? That would be cool, so long as they weren't bringing all kinds of junk (Jennings, RG, etc.) by.

I wonder how many "JUNK" Savage 99's in .250-3000 that was in grandads foot locker along with the captured P08 Luger from WWI will be turned in for 200 bucks then dissapear before they get to the foundry to be melted
down?

Mosin's being illegal? Never heard of that...

Are we talking illegally owned guns or guns that are illegal because of gun laws?

Probably both. I wonder what would happen to someone if they were stopped in NYC on their way to one of the buy back locations with an illegal/unregistered hand gun.

Hell, if you are worried about it not being an illegal rifle, or shotgun just cut it down as much as possible before going. Anything under 16 inches will work. :p

2 of any of the guns being turned in - for $300 each from across the street. A 1911 and a BHP perhaps.

you guys are lucky.. In france, 10 years ago gun owners were given 3 choices for their legal pumpaction shotguns by their government.. Castrate them to single shots, neutrelazie them at their own cost, or give them away to police for nothing...

Damn, I'm happy not to be french.

They should have...

Im not aware of all details, but the worst thning, from what I have heard is that 3 years prior this event, the government asked all owners to signal themself (since those guns were free to sell, with no register), granting them a life possession permit.

But when all did that, and the good register was made, it was easy to give that "choice" (turn in, castrate or neutralize your gun) to honest owners..

great..

I wonder if some enterprising spirit decides to rob the place for the buyback money and the guns?

Is this how the NYPD stocks up?
