I paid around $400 cash for one NIB at an area gunshow last year. It was the first one I found that was in .45LC and had the black plastic grips on it. Actually I think the grips look kind of neat in that they're done up to resemble the style Colt used on their Single Actions.

bannockburn:

To each his/her own. I think those black plastic grips are just gosh-awful.
Then again I'm not thrilled with ivory either.
Nothing quite like a set of Walnut, Rosewood, Cocobolo or Goncalo alves grips.

Actually, because we're talking about an 1873 model - I think it would be neat to use something like mesquite or some sort of cactus.

Might be a bit hard to hang on to though ;)

(imagine John Wayne going for his six-gun & pulling his hand back cuz he got stabbed with a cactus spine. - LOL)

bannockburn,

Thanks for coming back. Just curious, I'm sincerely giving this some thought about getting one, Umberti .45LC. Like I've told Hondo, I've got some other revolvers to shoot, but have always wanted to bust loose with a .45 Colt!
Again, thanks for you answers.

I have a Cattleman Flattop Target 7½" in .45 Colt. It's an awesome looking gun, well finished and accurate. The base of the adjustable front sight was somewhat loosely fitted with the barrel, got it fixed under warranty. Also the gap between the barrel and the cylinder is wider than I prefer, but it does not spit lead so it's probably OK. I paid 550 euros for it, and think it has good although not great value for the money.

I'll play. Ive got the Cimarron version for sale:

Let me know if your interested, $450 shipped. With box & Papers, has not been shot more than 100 times.

1873 Cattleman Hombre, .357 mag

I bought this Hombre earlier this month. Shoots fine but was having some extraction problems with the .357 mag brass in two chambers. Having the gunsmith inspect it just in case.

I hear this problem isn't unheard of and it has been suggested (by a total stranger to me, so I took my grain of salt with the comment) that it clears up after a hundred or so rounds.

I kinda wanna throw a bird's head grip on it. I'll have to figure out how to work that project after I get it back.

Uberti Bisley

I bought an Uberti Bisley in .44 Special from 3b's Shooting Supply in Kaufman, TX last Spring. What a great gun. Shoots straight and smooth. You can also get them from Buffalo Arms. I reload, too. Cast my own bullets, also. I can do a lot of shooting for not much more than using a 22 rimfire.
The Bisley hangs real nice in the hand, too.

I own both a Colt SAA and two Cimarron Uberti cartridge single actions. I would not even start to compare the Italian guns to the Colt. My is a 1966 vintage and the quality is by far greater on the Colt.

My Cimarron Uberti(s) are great guns, but required some tweaking. Both out of the box required work. My Lightning was a minor thing ~ replacing a firing pin. The Bisley was another story. It took a complete and expensive rebuild.

I also have three of the Uberti cap and ball revolvers that have all been good shooters.

The Uberti(s) are a good value, and I think you will be happy with the purchase.

I have owned a lot of SAA's over the years. I like the Uberti's and

Pietta's best-had a Pietta in stainless steel that was just great. I'd love to have one in .357...I seem to be drifting back to that cartridge again.

Hard to go wrong with a Uberti, and you can buy several for the price of a Colt...

Cattleman

I ran a Pair of 45 Colt 5 1/2 Guns in SASS for a while before going to Rugers.
No Issues after the normal Tune-Up.
Traded them to another Cowboy for something and a bottle of whiskey.

I own one & it never really staisfied me : trigger spring broke (twice), chamber mouths are grossly oversized (= dificult to load for), bore is extremely rough (= difficult to clean), and although nicely finished overall, it seems to be constructed out of the softest gun-steel I ever saw.

Criske, I think the guns have gotten better since you last owned one, especially with Beretta giving Uberti some insight on metallurgy.

I have always felt Uberti revolvers really were about as close as you can get to a first generation Colt Model P without spending and elbow and a foot.

Both share many of the same faults.:D

Been out to the range a number of time & absolutely LOVE the Uberti 1873 Cattle Brass NM
Love it so much, I traded my used Blackhawk for a Cimmaron
so I have a matching set except the first one has a brass backstrap & trigger guard

The one flyer is totally my fault. I knew it before I even looked at the target.

I have 2 cattleman ..one 357 mag 7.5" and one 45 Colt 5.5"...

and they are sweet shooting guns. Oh yes, I do have an Old Colt but I think ,beyond the hype, the Uberti guns are a very nice gun for the money. I also have 2 Cimarron guns made by Uberti for my wife..The lightning and P" Junior both 38 sp .. and boy are they a pleasure to shoot . I Like the Uberti guns , they are well made . Glad you got one. Give us a report after you shoot it.

I picked up a used Cattleman in .357 Magnum on GunBroker last week and received it Monday. Took it to the range Tuesday and I couldn't be more pleased. It will share ammo with the Uberti 1873 lever action rifle that followed me home last week and with my Pedersoli Lightning clone.

Color case hardened .357 Magnum goodness, all of them. Tasty!

Sorry, should have added the particulars about the target.

It was about 10 yards, free hands (I use a two hand hold), no sand bags or anything.
And that flyer still ticks me off, even though it was 3 weeks ago that I shot that target.

I knew as soon as the gun went bang.
In fact the gun went "bang"
and I went "DANG"!!!!!!

Interesting. The reason I ask is that on my range trip Tuesday, I was shooting the pistol pretty well at 5-7 yards, but when I went out to 10-15 yards, my grouping really opened up. Much more so that twice the spread I would have expected. At 5-7 yards, all 6 shots were touching. This was using a two-hand hold. At 10-15 yards the groups were probably 4 times as large. I did this over and over again through approximately 100 rounds.

It could be that I'm just not used to the sights, but more likely I think it means I need to get my eyeglass prescription checked.

I have two older Uberti Cattlemans I purchased for CAS years ago. Both are blued 5 1/2" .45 Colt models.I seem to break cylinder hand springs about 3-5K rounds, newer made guns have gone to a coil spring. They are inexpensive and easy to fit. Both guns are very accurate and shoot to point of aim with my loads. They have been easy to clean and service.
The only mods I have made is smoothing the actions by carefully de-burring the action.I also removed the lacquer/varnish finish on the wood stocks and finished with some Watco oil and paste wax.

My two Uberti Cattlemans actually shoot better(accuracy) than any of my Ruger or USFA guns.I like they way they feel and shoot and they didn't break the bank.

I like they way they feel and shoot and they didn't break the bank.

That's exactly the way I feel about mine too.
And reloading my own helps keep the ammo costs way down too!
It costs me about $9 or so to reload a 50 round box vs the $35-$50 for store bought ammo.

I already have some lead too, so this summer I'll cast my own & save another $3 a box.

Hondo-I cast my own .45's.I just cast about 400 bullets
yesterday.255 gr..Can't beat it.I have this Uberti Stampede,
but I also have a Ruger Blackhawk Convertable..45 L.C./.45 ACP.
I load for all of them. It's kinda high dollar to get set up,but
once you do the savings add up.I have some fair accuracy
through all of them, but the fun is in shootin em up.This one is the antique finish.

I picked up a very nice used Vaquero in .357 Magnum this weekend. I haven't shot it yet, but compared to my Uberti, it's heavier and I like the sights better on the Ruger. I'll post again once I've had a chance to shoot it.
