I really like the 1873 Cattleman.

Looks really good in Charcoal Blue. Thought it might be a nice 357 Magnum to have.

Just wondering what the quality is like??

I bought a Uberti Colt 1851 Navy several months ago. It's a wall hanger, not a shooter, so I can't tell you how well it shoots. Fit and finish aren't very good. I polished the brass grip frame and trigger guard, and discovered the castings are of less than high quality. It's okay for a $200 conversation piece.

I'd like to know why only the Italians seem to use fancy blues on firearms.

I have one in .45Long. No problems with it at all, but do spend the extra $$ and get the target sights.

I also have a Cattleman revolver carbine; one of my all-time favorites. Great shooter, but the cylinder didnt line up juuust right when I first got it.

Uberti makes good stuff, and I'm happy with my toys from them.

Uberti makes most of the replica guns sold here in the US, and they offer different levels of quality to different customers.

Their lower-end guns usually have brass backstops and trigger guards, the better quality guns have steel.

As an example, the Uberti-made guns sold by Cimmaron are top-of-the-line quality and many of the guns offered by EMF are the lower quality type.

Top quality guns like those sold by Cimmaron or Navy Arms have very good fit and finish, and usually shoot very well.

I believe the Uberti Cattleman is a lower quality model.

Although my personal experience with them goes back quite a few years (I got my first Cimmeron when they were still in Santa Fe, NM) the Cowboy Action Shooters I know say my experience is still pretty valid.

First, the high end guns are pretty well made but for some reason Uberti can't temper a spring to save their butts. You will probably have to replace most if not all the springs if you do more than hang the gun on the wall.

The so called "Charcoal Blue" is one of the thinnest, poorest finished I've seen on a gun. The first Cimmeron I bought was the "blue" SAA copy and in a matter of weeks the finish was about gone from both holster wear and cleaning.

For what it's worth I have never seen an original 1st Generation Colt SAA that had a finish anything like this. Their blue was certainly different from our modern blue black but it wasn't this thin, bright blue Uberti uses.
As always, YMMV!

I've had an nickle finished Uberti Regulator (dual cylinder 45 Colt/45 ACP) imported by American Arms since 1998. The only problem I've ever had with it is as Dave T posted was I had to replace a snapped mainspring. Also, after each range session I always have to make sure that all the screws are tight. If I had to do it over again I would get the Blackhawk convertible.

Hey First, the charcoal finish is designed to wear through. It is done to represent a older patina/blue finish. That is not a problem with the finish. The major players are/were Uberti, Armi San Marcos and Pietta. There are some Palmettp pieces out there. The Ubertis are made according to importer specs. The Gibbs/Navy Arms are excellent. Many Cimmarons weren't. The other big importers were EMF and Taylors. The EMFs seem to be poor. They are a 50-50 item. The better quality SAA clones are Rugers, older Hawes, USFA and Navy Arms or Taylors Ubertis. The EMFs are no longer Ubertis. They are Piettas and their Great Western II seems to be just fine. I didn't mention AWA as they are still too new and now made by Mateba. The older AWAs made by ASM were 75-25 items. A few great ones were made. The other 75% weren't too hot. Avoid the KBI Liberty model. The EAA pistols are good except for ejector breakage. The new Beretta Stampede is also too new. I shoot Rugers in 44-40.

I've got an Uberti SAA copy with the interchaneble .45acp and .45 colt cylinders.

Its a great gun and shoots well. I'm not sure what the long term durability is like but it is a good shooter for $340.

The lock up on the Uberti was better than the Colt SAA the dealer showed me.
