can someone give me a summery of UK gun laws.I also have a few spacific questions.
1.can anyone get a handgun
2.Are thier alot of gun owners in the UK
3.Does the public frown gun ownership

1. No, All Section 1 Firearms must at least a 12" barrel and be at least 24" in overal length (except Muzzle loaders), semi autos can only be .22 rimfire.
'Normal' handguns are section 5 & there are only around 400 sec5 certs issued at present.
handsguns of unique, historic or technical interest can be section 7.1 (if ammo isn't readily available)and held at home or 7.3 (if ammo is availble) and held at designated sites around the UK. But trying to get 7.1 or 7.3 is getting really hard, (I know as I'm trying at the moment:banghead: )
2.approx 600,000 at the last count (including shotguns)
3.yes

Search for my threads and you should have a lot of your questions answered.

This may answer the legal crap about HD in the UK as well

As Boom-stick said. But it applies, IIRC, only to Great Britain, not other parts of the UK such as Northern Ireland, where it is legal to own modern handguns according to posts I've seen.

:what: :what: :what: :what: :scrutiny: :scrutiny: :scrutiny: :what:

I really don't think so. They would have to get some kind of dealer license or something similar.

I was asking because here in the USA in places like NYC you have to know politicians to get a handgun,I asked because I was wondering if it was the same in the UK.

If that were so, I'd be buying Tony a pint right now.

I'm not an expert on these matters though, maybe Fosbery or someone else can fill you in better than I can.

I heard Tony Blair is anti-gun,which suprised me because he is good friends with our president and Bush is very pro gun(well except for the assualt wepons thing).

limbaughfan,

What makes you think you have to know a politician to get a handgun permit in NYC? Do you live in NYC or the vicinity?

no but ive heard that, and the last time permit holders names were released the people who had permits were Donald Trump,Joan Rivers,Robert DeNiro,Aero Smith,Imus, and Howard Stern and the like.

Do yall have any political partys or politicians who want to restore your gun rights.

Some Conservatives want to relax the law a bit, but most don't, as it might lose more votes than it would gain.

The B.N.P want less restrictions, but I am not going to vote for them. :scrutiny:

1.can anyone get a handgun

Yes! Anyone can get a muzzle loading pistol, a pistol made prior to 1919, a pistol of special historical importance or aesthetic beauty (like the gold plated, engraved P210s for instance), a pistol for signalling purposes or a pistol for the humane dispatch of animals. Like any firearm in the UK, you must provide good reason for having the pistol in question. A muzzle loading pistol could be used for target shooting, but a jewel encrusted revolver would only be allowed for serious collectors. Also, firearms dealers, firearms manufacturers, the police, the armed forces and anyone else with special permission to do so (such as movie prop companies and museums) can own all types of pistols.

2.Are thier alot of gun owners in the UK

About 650,000 in total.

3.Does the public frown gun ownership

In general, yes.

limbaughfan,

If you don't trust the mainstream media to be accurate on guns why would you expect them to be accurate on who does or doesn't have a carry permit?

If you can show cause why you need a permit you can get one in NYC. Acceptable reasons almost always center on dealing in goods with a high theft potential (large sums of cash, jewels, negotiables or other high value items) or you are famous enough to be a potential kidnap/nut attack.

Normal folks get left out in the cold.

Fosbery,

Thanks for echoing my sentiments, but at the present time my new FLO is disagreeing with 7.1's, 7.3's and humane dispatch pistol being allowed full stop. Not just for me but for everyone. That's the down side with our firearms laws being open to such interpretation.
I've been refused a 7.3 collection and am now going to appeal on it and although I don't want a humane dispatch pistol, they've told me that with any further requests for one, they will call into question the individuals shooting ability and inturn their right to keep a firearm because if they can't make one shot kills they shouldn't be hunting!!!

I hope all FLO's don't go like this.

Use a firearm, get arrested. This country really sucks. We are supposed to use reasonable force to protect ourselves with but even that right has been removed, even though it`s still law. Tony Blair has made this country into a haven for criminals, they can do what they like, and when they get arrested the criminals say their human rights are infringed, pathetic.

A few years ago a convicted criminal actually won £1000 compensation because prison was `boring`. Sheesh ***!!!

Interesting news article here;
