Is there a difference or does a non custom shop Ultra CDP II even exist? When I picked mine up today, the guy behind the counter looked at the slide and sais, oh you got the GOOD ONE! This is the custom shop one! Anyway, he seemed to think there are two different ones....anyone know for sure? I don't mean the diff of a Ultra CDP and the ultra CDP II. I do know the difference between those. He also mentioned that the "other one" doesn't have night sights and hasn't been thru the custom shop.

thanks!

The Ultra CDP means it has been worked-over in the Custom Shop.
The standard version is the "Ultra".

No, CDP is a whole line of pistols from Kimber. The CDPs marked Custom Shop ar earlier models before the CDP lineup was added as a mainstay with Kimber. They did the same thing with the Eclipse. As long as it doesn't have an external extractor it will be fine. As for one being better than the other I can' tell you I really doubt much more attention to detail occurs with the Custom Shop roll mark VS just CDP.

They make CDP Custom II, CDP Pro, and CDP Ultra models just like the other lines of their pistols such as the TLE Custom II, TLE Pro, and TLE Ultra for example. The Kimber base line is Kimber Custom II, Kimber Pro Carry, and Kimber Ultra Carry.

Guy behind the counter probally needs the word "Custom" to tell the difference between the TLE and Custom shop guns.

Allthough in hindsite its just marketing, like a XLT vs Lariet Ford truck. They have to call the fancy model something. Right?

Don't use magazines with metal followers in your Aluminum framed CDP. They'll eat up your frame. Get some Wilson, or Tripp Cobramags for that gun. Avoid wimpy UMC and WWB. Mine likes Federal ammo. (Walmart)

Awesome guns. Love mine. It's never failed from round one. HP's, SWC's, TrFP's. It doesn't matter. I added a magwell, a Wilson slide stop, and a Wilson safety I modded and sandblasted to match. Oh yea, made the beavertail black.

Here's my well-used, early Kimber Ultra CDP. It has been a very reliable and accurate little 1911 variant.

As far as them being true "Custom Shop" guns . . . I've heard conflicting stories through the years . . . and it really doesn't matter to me.

Frankly . . . a "true" custom shop gun might be a lemon that's goes back to a company 3-4 times to be worked on to get the danged thing reliable!;) In any event, mine's been a great little gun.

Check out the original "meltdown" package that was standard on the earlier Ultra CDP pistols. I suspect THAT took a while!

Kimber Custom Shop is an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp.

I had a CDP that was the biggest jamming POS ever to disgrace the 45 ACP cartridge.
