I just got done shooting some of my newest target loads.
I took slightly used 44mag brass, 11 to 11.5 gr of Unique, 240gr cast lubed bullets from the gun show and CCI or win standard primers. I put a good seater die crimp on there, just because thats how my dies are set.
They were a little smokey, gave a good powder burn, low muzzel flash, mild recoil (for a 44mag). Gun seamed at least as clean as any factory lead bullet.
These are milder than any factory 44mag rounds I have shot and are much hotter and cleaner burning than any 44spl round I have used.
For 45ACP I pick up range brass, prime them with the same standard primers, I use hard cast-lubed or plated 185gr bullets and drop a 7.5gr to 8gr charge of Unique and always hit it with a mild seater die crimp.
Muzzle flash is small, smoke isn't bad with plated bullets they seem to be as clean as any white box, non premium factory ammo.
I load tons of these and they are just about full power so work up a load accordingly. I would hate to have a bunch of half powered, dirty ammo, that could be prone to jams and have SHTF.
For 30-30 I pick up my brass, load them with standard primers, 7 gr of Unique and use 123gr 7.62 (yes they are .311) cheap-o winchester SP bullets.
I can only load these 1 in the mag and 1 in the chamber because they are so pointy.
I drop the same load (some times I bump it up +1gr) and use 150gr hard cast (.309'') flat point lubed bullets.
Kids like these. I don't load very many of these rounds, maybe a box or 2 at a time. They are low power and the 150gr bullets sound like they are subsonic with a 7gr charge.
I might try to load up some with (.308'') 150gr FMJ-BT with 8gr next time I can go shoot my long guns. Just because I got a bag of them for free.
The Unique 30-30 loads burn a little dirtier than any standard factory round, no shock there.
I have a lot of Unique so no need to be stingy and I am always trying to find new ways to use unique and I never load high volumes of any thing that doesn't at least fill the case about half way (to remove the chance of 2x charging).
About the only thing I don't load load unique in is 5.7x28mm. I have read too many stories that didn't end well.
Any one have any odd or standard Unique loads?
