Rec'd notification from Bruno, that they had received a shipment of Alliant. As Unique is one of the powders I use more than any other, it was available. To render this message brief, I jumped headlong. Now I have an 8LB jug that will probably last me until 2025. Lets do the math, average charge of 13 grains yields approx. 4500 loaded rounds. I will probably leave a well stocked powder supply to my nephew.

I would guess cast rifle. Classic .45-70 load is 13-15grn Unique under a 405grn.

At my nominal Unique drop weight, I have enough for nearly 8500 rounds of big bore, more if I wind up loading 9mm with it. I ordered an 8# jug after the last nonsense, and another order of 4 1# cans from Cabelas arrived, too... so I'm in high cotton for a while yet.

Happy days are slowly coming back ... Like the "Great Shortage" of 2013 with full recovery by 2019 ... I was there and I was well prepared for current shortage of 2021-202?.

I am on my fourth 8 lb container of Promo and average 4 gr charge for my 9mm/45ACP/PCC loads. That's around 14,000 rounds.

And once I start reloading pistol/PCC loads again in full swing after I restock on primers, that fourth container of Promo won't last too long, maybe not even 2023. (PCCs have a way of blasting through ammo ...) :D

My son can shoot a 10-22 storm 9mm carbine and mini 14 all faster than I can fill the mag

As I use Unique in several different pistols, 32 H&R 4.grns, 357 6.5 grns, 44 S&W Special 7.5 grns, 45 ACP 5. grns, 480 ruger 9 to 11 grns, 12 gauge 22-25 grns, 16 gauge and I cant remember the charge. Unique is the powder I choose. I have yet to find another that is as versatile. Yes it is a little dirty, it does not meter as well as 231. The 13 grains value is an average of the differing charges dispensed.

Wouldn't last me nearly as long at 21 grains per 12ga. shell. I had 3# when I started loading it for 12 ga. Shot all those up in less than a year, most just for handicap and Annie Oakleys.
I have used it for many different pistol loads in the past, it's a nice one to keep around because it can be used for so many different loads.

You need these magazine loaders :p

I use McFadden Lightnin' Grip Loader with different magazine adapters.

That means I can't say goodbye to each round I lovingly assemble for his consumption.... barring 22 I spend tons of time hand assembling each round on a single stage. I rotated the semi autos to my parents house during our current issue to slow him down. Building fundamentals making him practice off hand with iron sights is my plan to build a life long marksman. I even get trigger happy on the 10 22, so dam accurate... my favorite is shooting shotgun hulls at 100.

Hmm. Your load data doesn't seem to match all my manuals. In .45 Colt, My standard load with 250gr rnfp is 8.0gr Unique. I can go higher according to my manuals, but, I keep it right there.
Not knocking your post, just curious where that load came from.

You’re right to challenge my point, I got the data from Alliant but now realize I was looking at 45 ACP.

Sorry!

I like Unique. I use it in many metallic cartridges as well as 20 and 28 shot shell.

But, I’ll admit I’ve liked Alliant 20/28 of late for the shot shells. Unique loads are the back up if I cannot find any 20/28.

It's funny... as much as I love Unique, when I started loading 12ga shotshell, I couldn't find a AA duplicate load using Unique... so I picked WST, which worked very well. Even though I've stopped loading shotshell... and have even sold my MEC press... I still have nearly 3# of WST. Good thing it works swimmingly in the .45ACP... helping me save my Unique.

That's why my dad started me with a muzzleloader;) I had to do my own reloading.
On the OP: I agree with setting up for the future. Even if it's possibly for your nephew. You chose an excellent powder also.
