update on kid shot at ihop

Obeyed the rules? He's an idiot, he forced his bosses to clearly specify that it's bad to step in front of moving vehicles. And he's killed a kid, on top of that. Hopefully he's no so stupid as to not feel remorse. The only good thing is that his 'Southpark' (they're coming right for me) defence can't be used twice.

the rules have changed since i was that age

i was always lead to understand that when the cops wanted you to stop you were supposed to stop. and that there were severe consequences to trying to run someone down.
you really think he doesn't feel remorse?
i'm more curious about the driver and the choir boys he was out with. do they feel remorse? or if they had it to do over would his folks invite the lil group to live at their house again. after their own families tossed em out

i see

cops stand in front of cars all the time directing traffic running speed traps dui check points. i've seen hundreds of folks stopped that way. only knew one not stop, now that i think about it he got shot in the head with a 12 guage for it.sad thing in his case he was innocent too they were trying to get the hotel robber in the back seat of his cab

"Aaron Brown would not have died if Officer Stowe had followed his police department's rules," the family announced in a statement through their attorney. "We are also pleased that Chief Baker has announced a new policy...we hope this prevents other needless deaths."
Hmmm ...

Aaron Brown also would not have died if he had PAID HIS IHOP BILL. Or if he (or the driver, if it wasn't he) had stopped instead of stepped when the POLICE OFFICER stepped into the path of the vehicle and signaled to stop.

Aside from which, the fact that the department had to establish a new rule pretty clearly confirms that the officer followed the rules in effect at the time of the incident. Too bad the kid got killed but, the way I was raised, if you skip on a bill and then try to run down a cop you probably shouldn't expect a medal from the mayor.

lol .. You know what I mean..

What if the cop had missed, what if he had got run over? Standing in front of a moving vehicle to stop someone who didnt pay for a meal just isnt very smart.. let it go, take the plates down and call it in.. What made this so important that the officer had to put his life in danger to the point where he had to defend himself with deadly force?

Human beings have the ability to use reason and discrection.

reason

reason is a funny thing. you think reasonable then some dimwit like the moron driver does something completely unreasonable and a cop almost gets run down and a decent kid is dead. and i'll wager his folks end up spitting up and the waves of detruction from this lil saga will extend to the cop and his family as well.

That's not I'm saying.

I said it's unreasonable to jump in front of moving vehicles. I wouldnt do it because there's a chance I could be ran over and killed. I value my life more than a $13 check. Now maybe if it was something really serious like someone kidnapped my kid, I'd jump in front of a car to and try to stop them with a gun..

Just because someone had a gun, doesnt mean they necessarily have to put themselves in the situation to use it.

Im a bit confused, this may be a small town thing, but if he was working as a security guard, I am assuming he was off duty as an LEO. Why would department policy matter in that case?

The only thing that really angers me about this case is that a police officer moonlighting as a rent-a-cop can use deadly force in confronting a pancake thief. If the store manager had been in the officer's shoes and had done the same thing, he would be looking at a long stay in the graybar hotel.:banghead:

maybe in wisconsin

but in va if you drive at me with your car i can defend myself. and go home sleep in my own bed, might have to surrender weapon for a few days maybe not depending on county, the cop had a witness that he had just cuffed in the parking lot back his story and the lil angels in the jeeps storys "evolved"

Dude, if you follow your own reasoning a person who didn't like you could legally kill you by simply putting themselves in front of your car, and then shooting you. Have you really thought this through? Really?

my reasoning?

you are confused. i wasn't using my reasoning merely pointing out the legal reallity where i live. if someone that didn't like me wanted to he could shoot me anywhere. and make up any of a number of stories about why. but back to reallity for a sec. in this case we had a group of kids that did a small time stupid thing. that they escalated into a world class tragedy when one of them tried to run down a cop, in uniform. in front of witnesses.then the group of nobel prize candidates implicated each other before tightening up their stories.

the POLICE OFFICER stepped into the path of the vehicle and signaled to stop.

Excuse me:

Officer Carl Stowe was working as a security guard when he fired shots

Are you saying the title of Cop is like some degree of nobility that carries with it a license to block cars and shoot people with ill-gotten flapjacks in their bellies? The man should be doing hard time, the whole thing is a sick joke.

nasty reallity

is that when folks hire cops to work security they do it because cops have , POLICE POWERS,. they have a neat uniform hancuffs training and the right to arrest folks. funny thing is that had he been either a security guard or a private citizen in va he woulda had less hassle than he faced as a cop.being a cop means he has extra layers of crap to deal with. we had a guy shot 2 guys at waffle house one fatally fled scene initially when he returned he was cleared kept his gun name never in the papers. was kept there a couple hours

Did you read this part... but found Stowe "unreasonably placed himself in a position that allowed the situation to elevate to a level of high risk" when he stepped in front of the Jeep.

I understand firing if someone is actively trying to run you down and you have no avenue of escape, but making a choice to step in front of a moving vehicle because someone decided to dine and ditch is just not smart. The officer could have very well gotten himself killed over nothing.. In this case, he was forced to kill someone else and now he's got to live with that for the rest of his life.

Cosmo, I've been around here long enough to know that I usually agree with your positions, and therefore I know that you know that sworn police officers are legally on duty 24/7. The fact that he was working extra duty does not alter the fact that he is a sworn police officer.

i did

read that part, that was for the poor dead kids parents. and their lawyer.
did you see how what he did was made a bozo nono after this event?
i have had the unfortunate experience of a cop stepping out to stop mme more than once. and in spite of being way past 3 sheets to the wind the idea of trying to run one down never crossed my mind and i was doing more than dine and dash.

the cop fired as he was jumping outa way or so said the ballistics reconstruction.

its a shame i retired from crime when i did no more car chases now i just drive at em and they have to fold its getting easier

No need for them to make up stories if you'd make it so easy for them to legally commit murder.

I'd like you to elaborate on your position. Your neighbour down the street saw your dog take a crap on his lawn. Later that day he sees you driving down the street towards his house. He runs out in front of your vehicle and shoots you.

You willingly would accept that? Yes/No

ummm

in the world i walk in my "accepting" or not has lil bearing on it he sjhoots i'm shot. if i drive at him while fleeing from my agravated dog crappping offense and he fears for his life its agood shoot.

if your in the street attempting to stop me from fleeing the scene of my dog crapping on your yard and you believe i'm trying to run you down will you accept my front bumper? or assuming you are armed will you defend yourself? in va your ok if you do

been done

more than once does this mean your no longer ready/willing to talk about the incident that happened here? or we have some other what ifs we wanna try?

just the facts mam

Aaron Brown, instead of just stopping and dealing with his stupid petty crime
thought he would force the guy blocking his getaway to move.
He used a 2 ton deadly weapon to do this.
He lost.

Sometimes young trouble makers get more then they bargained for, sucks for them.

IMHO the cop got in just the right amount of trouble for a spit second bad decision.

IMHO one day loss of pay is all he should be getting.

That and Free meals at IHOP for life.
