Urban Camouflage?

The whole point in painting the gun, is to break its outline and appearance.

The pattern doesnt necessarily need to be appropriate to the environment, or even the cammies, or whatever your wearing for it to be effective or work either. It just has to take away or disrupt the outline of the gun.

As with anything, you also have to use a little common sense too.

What you will see, and in pretty much any environment, compared to an unpainted gun, the painted gun will still distract/confuse the brain, at least to some extent.

Of couse, youre always going to have those who will resist and balk at the idea, or believe it works, but thats to be expected. Hey, whatever. Actually using something in the field to know, usually makes the believers and changes minds. Only one way to find out.

I've seen a variety of cammo patterns in the urban/suburban environment and they all attract attention. The purpose of camouflage is to blend into the environment.
Today, we went to the grocery store. As we live about 12 miles from a very small town, the local grocery store lacks no firearms signs on the doors. My cammo was blue jeans, sneakers and a loose tee shirt with 9mm.
As I blended in with everyone else; my cammo was 100% effective.

Well since this is a rifle forum was your 9mm a carbine or rifle?

This thread has me thinking some experiments would be cool. I have neither the time nor the urban environment. Perhaps a 2x4 with some table saw cuts to roughly resemble an evil black rifle with various paint schemes

Thinking ahead of AR builds 7, 8 and 9.

I think he was harkening back to his original post. Obviously small and concealable is a winning choice but if one had to...Bubble wrap. Or colored shrink wrap with a few holes in it on a featureless.

On a serious note I don’t think any attempt at subterfuge with an AR is likely to work well short of boxing it up and I would never march around with a 2x4 to test theory. Half the population has been brainwashed into believing every firearm is a bad one and to be unreasonable feared. So grab that guitar case and those Dead Head stickers and get to thinking inside the box.
