I saw a www.cnbc.com news item that Colt may get a new DoD contract for the US Army M-4 5.56mmNATO rifle. I never shot or used a Colt model M-4 but I've seen and read a lot about the HK 416 model. HK's design is far better and costs about the same as the Colt.
Why the US DoD and US Army would waste $$$ buying 3 different types of M-4s/compact weapons is way beyond me, :cuss:.

Yes, Piston guns are way better than direct impingement guns and Heckler & Koch weapons are better than anythingon the market, just ask them, they will tell you this is so! ;)

Everytime I hear this remark I remember how wonderful the Singapore SAR-80, the British L85/L85A1, and the Taiwanese Type 65 turned out to be,,,,,,,

Hint, the Type 65, when it would actually function, has a nasty habit of setting the handguards on fire during sustained fire.
Usually this is uncommon because the rifles will not reliably fire enough rounds before jamming to cause this to happen.

I'm absolutely sure that there is no conflict of interest or lack of objectivity in all the blather about the M4.

Just like the sudden concern about body armor, an MRAP in every garage, etc.

The HK416 does some things better than the M4, but that comes at some costs. If you are using very short barrels and suppressors, then the 416 is going to do better than the M4. Other than that the 416 does not really beat the M4 in any practical way, and has been reported to be not as accurate as the M4. The 416 is not a panacea in rifle development, contrary to what HK and others claim.
