i'm over in afghanistan and today saw an mp with a sig sauer pistol. anyone know what model it would be? i didnt get to ask him about it, but was told if they go to mpi training?? they could carry the sig. can't find anything on the internet about army sigs. thanks

after he said 226 i did some more searching and came up with the m11, thanks. first time i ever saw a sig in the army and i spent 6 years with an mp unit

Yep, M11. AKA the P228. It's the only SIG-Sauer handgun that the US Army issues. The Navy is a little different, with the SEALs and the P226. Not sure what the designation is for that one.

IIRC, the SEALS pistol is just called the SIG P226 NSW. The acronym being Naval Special Warfare. Since it is not a generally adopted sidearm, it doesn't get an alphanumeric designation like the M9, M9A1, M11, or M1911A1.

There are also several specialized combat units that use the Glock 19 also if we are going to tell the whole story. The 1911 is also still in service with some Marine units so don't get ready to run Sig up the flag pole yet!

What units would that be? Ive never heard of Glocks being used. I love my glock 19, that would be cool to read about.

a soldier on a flight to north carolina last christmas, told my grandma he and/or his squad were switching to glock to take over to the deserts of trashcanistan.

it just happened to be a short time after I got into shooting and you know how grandmas can be..

for the life of me, I can't remember exactly what he was...green beret or ranger are the 2 I keep coming back to. either way I remember thinking he was a bad ass when she told me about him..

I 'heard' from a good friend who heard a latrine rumor from some buddies of his that the 2d Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group bought Glock 19s to replace their well worn M-9s.;)

Latrine Rumor is right. Show some links that provide proof that the Army is using Glock. Who cares about what the Air Force carries for MP duty. ;)

"who cares what and Air Farce carries for MP duty?" Good one. Actually the Air Farce calls it SP instead of MP. When I was in they carried .38 S&W rotary guns.

No offense to Air Force personnel or vets but the two links provided so far clearly indicate that these pistols were for the Air Force, Not Army Special Forces. Before the Kool-Aid gets to strong, lets try to keep it factual. ;)

I just didn't see any Sigs in those pictures but I did see a lot of Glocks. That's an interesting thing about the truth. You only have to tell it once because it never changes.

You probably did not see any Sig's in those pictures because the poster was attempting demonstrate that somebody somewhere is using Glock's.

Weird.

It's an M-11. (P-228.)
this. In the Big army these are issued to mostly CID and a few random others. That was my experience when I was in anyway.

SF might be using glocks, however while deployed I only saw them use m9's. The very few CAG guys that I saw were using glocks with blacked out rears, a tritium front and +2 mag extensions.

Don't mind w2fnt, he's already becoming infamous as a troll. Of course he claimed to own over 100 handguns, so there is that to consider. :D

Folks, You do realize the Army Reserve Special Forces units that trained the Iraq Police Forces carried the same Glock 19 pistols that were being issued to the IPF during the training phase so the Police would not question why they are getting Brand X pistol and the trainers were carrying Brand Y pistols.
You are aware of that,,,,Right???
