Atlantic and Pacific are a major factor. Supply routes, moving an invasion force and not being intercepted/seen from wherever they start to where they are going. Not saying ti's not possible but highly unlikely. But if it were ever to happen I could picture them landing in NYC, meeting light resistance, Bloomberg welcoming his new alien overlords and assuring them only the criminals of the city have guns. They'd probably run into trouble in NJ, and have a complete standstill when they met people from Pennsylvania lol
regarding the 1814 british invasion of washington, you forgot to mention that local armed citizen did, in fact, do a fine job of defending baltimore from ground attack shortly thereafter.
That was the local militia, after the defense of washington was mismanaged.
I would also consider local armed citizen efforts in the battle for new orleans and how well that worked against the British. (the early 1800's battle, not the messy post hurricane affair)
As far as invading the US, well.. you don't launch ground invasions when the defending nation has nukes. I mean, what's the point of taking new ground when they just knocked your cities and homes and supply lines into the stone age? And how the heck could you hold it?

how about the ruski's and chinese do a joint space launch, and on the way up they have a "malfunction", diplomates are called "accident" "uninteninal" other catchy words are thrown around, bottom line is the "wayward spacecraft" is heading for the U.S. now our leaders wont start a war over and accident, so we prepare for the "crash" maybe send some fighter jets to intercept, problem is while still miles overhead the "spacecraft" explodes and releases a magnetice burst disableing all us electronics and comunication.

... It does not say give that power over to foreign and private global bankers.
He realized later that he screwed up big-time.

Current automobiles are full of microprocessor based control systems. After a large EMP bomb goes off, very few vehicles will be functional. Unless some form of shielding is utilized in the spare parts storage areas, there will not be replacement parts to get those vehicles running again.
Engine and transmission control has been computerized for the last decade or longer. Older vehicles with distributors and points to control the spark, and with hydraulically controlled or manual transmission would still work; anything built for the civilian market within the last decade will be useless.

There will be no conventional military invasion. The quite, bloodless conquer of our nation will come from our debtors. They will threaten to collect, but we will be unable to pay. They will begin to control our country without even stepping foot onto US soil. We cannot declare bankruptcy because it would destroy both the US and the world economy. Slowly, but surely, they will gobble us up and control everything. All our personal debt(mortgage, credit cards, car payment, other) will be owed to hostile entities that will straggle us into submission. Anyone who resists will be labled an enemy of the state.

I'd imagine that not only would our semi-isolation be a detterent, but the sheer size of our landmass as well. Sure we have a good amount of natural resources, but it would be much more profitable in the long run for someone like china or russia to invade the middle east. I have the feeling that they would deal with the population in a much more ruthless and effective way.
