Used Buckmark vs Trailside

I just got back from a visit to a local shop. Here in MD the gun laws are crap, so we have to "bend" so to speak.

Here is what I am looking at. The Sig Trailside with 6" barrel, adj sights for 569.00

He also has a very nice Buckmark Target, used, this has a small ding on the front strap and the left grip is slightly warped away from the frame. He is asking 369.00 for this. This piece looks like it has not seem much at all use, no wear marks etc.

I really like the feel and trigger of the Sig, but I am concerned with $50 magazines that are polymer. I also know that these are selling for about 100 less on the Net, but to have a transfer is going cost 80+ here.

Any thoughts?

Any dealers in MD that you'd recommend?

Let me prequalify my statement by saying that I am predisposed toward buying new.

The warped grip panel thing would have me concerned. Unless there is something specific and explainable to this model . . . .

If it is wood - wood warps with temperature and humidity extremes. Not good for the gun either.

If it is some type of plastic or even if wood, the warping may be an indication that someone was playing gunsmith.

I'd have it looked at closely (as in disassembled) by a gunsmith before I bought it or make sure it has some kind of reasonable warranty from the shop.

I agree with you about the grip. I think it could be something that I'm not seeing...maybe it was left out in the rain?

You can get trailside magazines from www.larrysguns.com for $35 and from www.cheaperthandirt.com as well. Also, Trailsides can be found for $389 from www.impactguns.com (I've never ordered from them) so with an $80 transfer and probably $40 shipping+ins. (guess) you'd not be too far off the price locally, but you can save over $50 that way, but no instant gratification.
I just picked up a 6" TS this weekend and it's a sweet shooter. Great trigger and a snap to clean. I'm very happy with it so far (two range trips and 400 rounds of various ammo)

Yeah but the Buckmarks are all blued right? If it was left out in the rain, it was probably left out long enough to rust on some level so even if it was refinished, there would be evidence of rust/pitting somewhere.

Maybe, who knows. In either case, mysteries and guns you plan on using aren't a good combo.

Looks like I am screwed on this gun.

Here is the deal. MD law states that any piostol mfg'd after 1-1-2003 has to have an internal lock.

There are a couple of companies that make a lock that is accepted by MD....however, the lock for .22s havent materialized here yet. So, once the locks arrive (a couple of dealers said that they have had them on order for 3 months now) then MD can tell Browning that its ok to ship.

I sure would like to have one now, but I wont settle for used or something else.

The Sig is looking better right now.
