i am new to the pistol ownership world, and my step father told me of a friend from work selling a 6" .357 smith/wesson ($150). i was told he takes very good care of his things, he tends to buy alot and finds out he didnt really need it and sells it. so my question is with out taking it to a gun smith what do i look for in a used revolver. also he lives in an area that i can test fire on site before purchase.

and for my second question i am also looking to purchase a 3-4" .357 revolver. what features, makes, models should i start my search on?

thanks in advance
p.s. the new "security update" at work has unblocked THR at work!!

Even if the timing is off and the lockup isnt that tight (see the revolver checkout thread) $150 is a deal on just about any S&W 357 Mag revolver in even ok shape. If it's as well taken care as the guy's reputation suggests then you've found a steal so jump on it.

ugaarguy just said exactly what I was going to say. Unless that gun has a bent barrel or something along those lines, you are getting a serious bargain at 150.00. I can't imagine how you would end up losing money on that deal, even assuming a certain number of repairs outside of it being catasrophically f'ed up.

Even if the frame was cracked or the barrel bulged you could probaly get most of your money back by selling the rest of the parts. 150$ for any shootable S&W is a good price and if it's in good shape it's a steal...

You need to buy it. I like the Ruger GP100 or SP101 for the 3-4'' gun you want and they are at a good price.
