I was thinking about picking up a German surplus P6...does anyone have one and what do you think about it??

Does it only take P5 specific mags or can I use P226/229 mags???

Where is a good place to get one?? I've seen a couple of places that sell it for $250 ish.

The SIG-Sauer P225 is a great pistol, but it won’t take any other 9mm magazines. I consider $250 to be a ridiculously good price. Wish I knew where I could get one for close to that in southern California.

You can buy them on the web for between $250-300. The one downside to not seeing it in person before buying is the exterior condition can very widely. Some people report buying ones that look almost new, while the ones I have seen had much of the bluing worn off.

There are quite a number of posts on Sigforum.com on these pistols. Most seem happy with them but posts seem to indicate some suppliers have pistols in better condition. Give it a look.

I bought one from CDNN, it was pristine. Barely any wear on the barrel. Walked into the gun shop, the owner says look at this. Number 2 is on layaway. It's almost perfect too......can't have had a box shot thru it. The DA is awful, but once you get past that first shot.............

I got a Sig P226 over a year ago on the recommendation of some local LEO's - took a while to be accurate with 9mm but once I got enough practice in at the range it shot terrific and was a lot of fun.

That influenced my purchase last week of one of the P6's from a local shop - went to the range and it functioned and shot very well - won't take long to get use to it since I already had the 226 - overall condition was good - some lack of bluing on sharp edges - I bought it as a shooter so looking forward to more range time. :)

I think if you can get out the door under $300 anywhere it is a great buy.

Condition of the P6's varies significantly...some only have tiny bits of wear, whereas others have small spots of rust and/or pitting. Definitely good to handle one before buying it, if you can.

Solid Deal IMO

A good friend of mine got one from aimsurplus. It's a great piece and a solid deal IMO. I'm considering picking one up too after seeing his. Some wood grips would be right nice on the P6 too. Pretty slick.

change the springs to a lighter mainspring and the DA trigger becomes managable!

i have one on order, and one for next month.

Nice little guns, feels better in my hand then the P239!

Got mine from aimsurplus.com, picked it up in person as I'm local to them. Great gun at a fantastic price!

i bought one from shotgun news and so did a few friends of mine all but one shoots great and the only thing wrong with the one is that magazine wont lock back the slide after it emptys mag. they were a little dirty but other than that they shoot good and smooth i was really shocked because i didn't get to see it first but happy with it P225/p6 cleaned it up and i also found out Sig has a used gun program that for 129.00 you can send it in and they will replace springs and check it out for proper function and put sig night sites on it. so i went and took the chance.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, for less than ~$300-350 there is no better quality gun out there than the P225/P6. They are nice little guns and well worth the price. They make for an excellent plinking/range gun I think.
