So I've been carrying a full-size 5" Springfield 1911 ("Loaded" version, if it matters) for the past few years without any complaints. I've recently acquired a brand new full-size USP .45 (pictures to follow later). I've carried my 1911 in IWB and OWB holsters, alternatively -- depending on what I'm wearing, so I have absolutely no qualms about carrying something that's only slightly wider and longer in grip. My question, I suppose, is simply this: to those who own and carry the full-size USP (.45 version preferred, since it has differing dimensions from other calibered versions), how do you carry it? What sort of holster(s), brand preference, etc?

:banghead: :( I'm in CA, the only time I carry my USP is in a case to the range or to an IDPA match :( :banghead:

USP45f in a Galco Concealable OWB and USP9f in a CTac IWB on a Aker belt...at the same time - j/k. I'm thinking of ordering a VMII for the 45, but I don't think I'd carry it much in warmer weather anyway and I have a WatchSix coming for the G26. I'm 6'2" 200, 34" waist and it works well as long as I'm wearing cool weather clothes. I need the flat mag baseplates for my 12rd mags.

Holy heck, I actually thought if it was possible to carry a USPf .45 also. But realized OWB carry would be difficult for me because I'm sorta skinny so it'd look like I'd have a tumor growing out of my side.

Oddly enough, I can fully conceal a fullsize 1911 no problem with a t-shirt, but for me the width is the problem with most double stack guns. Then with a double stack .45 it's even tougher. It's no secret the USP .45 is a pretty darn big gun, and I've tried to find ways to conceal it. For my body type it doesn't work.

You can try IWB holsters, since they're great for larger guns. Look into a VMII or something along those lines. But the gun is so wide that for me I just couldn't carry it IWB.

I guess I'm stuck carrying my P2000. Good luck though!

Pancake holster (similar to what Omaha posted, but with only two holes, no thumb break, and a slight forward cant) on 2" nylon belt at about 4 O'Clock over my underclothing. Pants over that and untucked shirt over that. Spare magazines in a pouch at 8 O'Clock. The butt of the gun sticks up above my pants waist line at about just enough to get a comfortable hold.

Sometimes I reverse the holster for cross-draw and move it and the mag pouch closer to 6 O'Clock. In that position the forward cant puts the butt of the gun up higher, but that works ok for crossdraw.

With a Hawaiian shirt these work well even in the summer, but I'm a big guy so I guess I can conceal a big gun.

ETA: Brand name of holster? I don't remember and I don't remember where I got it. It is unmarked and of a slightly lower quality than the one I have for my USP40, which is this: http://www.donhume.com/products/ProductsPage.cfm?ProductID=44

As mentioned, some pictures (Bonus 1911). :) Not great quality, mostly because I'm using my cell phone in lieu of my digital camera (which is broken).

To be quite frank... the 1/4"(approx.) difference in width doesn't bother me at all. I'm young and asian, and if it doesn't work, I make it work. I almost always wear a jacket/blazer/suit, so IWB or OWB is merely a matter of if I'm wearing jeans/casual pants or suit pants.

how do you carry your 1911. I just got one I am havin a prob hiding it. the grip wants to stick out when i bend over or squat.. I am 6' and 165lbs

There's no way I could pull it off without a jacket (5' 10", 150 lbs). Even my USPc45 is big..which is why I HAD to just order a USPc9 :D

I would think, due to the length, you would probably have to go IWB. Something like a VMII or a CTAC.

My USPf 9 that I used to own always struck me as a bit big for concealed carry. I tried it a few times with a cheap soft-sided IWB and I guess it worked okay, but think it printed more than anything else I've carried (including a full-sized 1911), so never really looked into getting a better holster for it.

Theres no denying the 1911s big but. Theres a lot to conceal, but the gun being slim helps very much. I carry mine IWB at around 4 o'clock with a size larger t-shirt. Fleece sweaters or dark color shirts with patterns help very much. But for myself, I usually wear dark color polo shirts so it breaks up the outline of a 1911.

If you need to pick something up, it's better to squat (bend at the knees) to pick it up than bending over. The gun might print slightly, but I guarantee most of the people around you are too busy doing their own thing. :)
