Hi all,
I recently got to shoot my handloads of 165gr Speer soft point boat tails in the 30-06. I loaded them with 40 gr 2230C. The load was super accurate, ~3/4" at 100 yards. Factory Rem 165gr Core Locked's were hovering around 1.5"-2". I love the accuracy, but don't have a chrony so don't know the velocity. Anyone got velocity for the same or simmilar recepie? The barrel is 22" or so.

Hi. It's a .223/5.56 milsurp powder. There is no published data for it. Equivalent to AA2460. However, on Hodgdon's burn rate chart, AA2460 is one number faster than H4895. H4895 is a well known .30-06 powder. Four numbers faster than IMR4895. Both of them are .223 powders too.
Don't think I'd worry about the velocity with a 3/4" group. I'd worry about finding more of it. Accuracy is far more important than the velocity. The game you kill with that load won't care.

If you care about velocity, I would work backwards. If you're zeroed with the stuff at 100 yards, see what the drop is at 200 yards and use a ballistics calculator to figure out the velocity that would result in that amount of drop. Won't be accurate like a chrony, but it's better than not knowing.

I am not worried about top velocity, just figuring out the velocity so I know how to dope the shot for longer ranges. Yeah, once I saw the 3/4" groups I just left it alone.

As I recall, AA2230C is extremely close to AA2460 with regard to burning curve, and AA says to use AA2460 for it. The best I can help you with is 147 grain FMJ's in 30/06 concerning actual numbers personally recorded.

I chronographed these 147 grain FMJ BT's using 49.5 grains of AA2460, CCI 200's shot from a Winchester made 1917 Enfield. Results were a very uniform avg of 2999 fps. Accurate published data that I have that has no 165 grain loads, but does have 168 grain data using AA2460. Their min 168 grain load uses 42 grains of AA2460 @ 2446 fps from a 24" barrel... I'm guessing 40 grains would be around 2250-2300 fps or so. BTW, their max is 46.7 grains for 2659 fps.

Good luck.
