I just ordered a 5.45 vepr and need some help getting it set up the way I want it to be.
I bought one with a 20.5 inch barrel with an unfinished stock.

First thing I need to do is remove the unfinished stock and replace it with something more tactical, I've heard they look like something from 6th grade shop class when they show up.

I would like to find the stock in this picture but I'm unable to find it, Atlantic firearms didn't know either. Go figure huh?

Next I need to find out if it will accept extended magazines or if I will need to find a way to get it to accept them.

After that I would like to take it to a smith and get the barrel rifled, so that way I can add a muzzle break.

Any advice or info/links to products would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.

The stocks I have seen aren't too bad, but keep in mind, they are unfinished, so there is an advantage there that you can chose the color/finish, or toss it for some polymer. Also if your ordered from Atlantic Firearms, they specifically state:

PLEASE NOTE: Stocks are unfinished, incomplete and may be cracked or broken . This new VEPR rifle accepts most standard AK buttstocks and is intended for the owner to replace them. There is no warranty on stock sets.

exactly which one did you buy? Post a pic if you can. I assume the non-slant-cut receiver, right? What does the muzzle look like now? Is there a welded-on "thread protector" or is it truly just a bare barrel?

You will have to install a bullet guide and modify the magazine latch if you want to use "standard" surplus-type AK-74 mags.

Here's my Vepr 7.62x39 conversion overview; may have some useful info for you. Or not. :)

Read up on 922r compliance as well, so you don't accidentally commit a felony along the way. ;)

Piece of cake. Use a cut off wheel in a dremel. Very carefully grind right where the spot weld is. Work the cap back and forth with a pair of channel locks. The pin on mine fell right out. Take your time grinding. I bought my bullet guide from Carolina Shooting Supply. Love my Vepr.

Meant to say threaded, woops.
The rifle is from Atlantic, it is threaded and capped. Should I give taking the cap off it a whack or just take it somewhere and give someone else 20$ and save my rifle?

That SGM tactical is made for slant backs only ):

I do like the thumbhole stock a lot, maybe I need to spend some time with some sand paper and finish t myself.

I very definitely will have to get a bullet guide to accept double stack mags.
It should be here in about a week, I will post pics of it when it arrives.

watch the video. You can grind off the spot weld and work out the pin. The pin will likely be horizontal across the bottom of the barrel.

READ UP ON 922R COMPLIANCE before you do. Or start using Surplus mags. The laws are weird and the BATFE has no sense of humor.
