:)Hi everybody, I have been working on a 1929 Tula Mosie. I bought several last year right before the things got really crazy. This rifle was and is ugly. But beauty is in the beholder. I read all the horror stories about the trigger, sights, sticky bolts, weight etc. I shot the Tula stock and well, the stories are true. So I decided to make this old rifle a little better. I replaced the stock with a ATI synthetic. Then I moved on to the rear sight. I installed a solid CNC machined picannty rail set-up. A guy on Ebay sold these and the quality is just excellent and very solid. Not cheap, but American made. I mounted a nice AIM scope with proper eye-relief. Next up was the trigger and I finally went with a Timney trigger through Midway. I tried all the gimmicks and while they are just ok the Timney is outstanding. I set it up for 3 1/2 lbs and no slack or creep. I took the old rifle to the range. Grouping with the Timney trigger were 1 1/2 to 2 inches at 150meter plus. I moved over to the 300meter range and was able to hit 4 inch groups. The rifle would shoot 6 to 8 inches plus at 200meters when completely stock. Next month I am having the barrel cut down 4 inches and properly re crowned by a gunsmith. I know this is a $120 firearm and I am crazy to put this amount of money in this OLD rifle, but is has been very fun and I learned a lot. And isn't fun what it is all about? Actually the old "gal" looks really nice now.

Four inches is not a big difference.

You will get good results from the rifle whether you cut the barrel down or not. Four inches won't make that much difference. Sounds like you have a very nice rifle as currently improved.

Yes it is very fun to have a scope on a Mosin. Every specimen does not have to be period true. There are a few people that own Krags and K98 Mausers that would rather now theirs were back in original form, if for no other reason to sell them for more money. If it has been hacked apart already there is no reason not to upgrade some things...

Hi everybody, I am well aware that a 4 inch cut and re-crown of the barrel will not make a whole lot of difference. This barrel will be shortned to make handling a little easier. That is all. I did find a really nice leather sling for it. I keep all original parts and could return it to near as sold if needed be. All of the other Mosin's I have are 100% original. Just wanted to do one.

I had 2 Mosins and got rid of one, but eventually I'd like at least 4 of them. I'll keep my current one in stock form and if I ever get my hands on one of the carbines it'll most likely stay stock. The other 2 will get modified. One will get a Boyd's stock, a rail to replace the rear sight w/ scope, and possibly a Timney trigger. The other will be the same except the Boyd's stock. It'll have this instead http://www.archangelmanufacturing.com/new-products-2013/ and 5-10 spare magazines. I know neither of the modified rifles would serve much of a purpose that something more modern couldn't do more easily and cheaper, but I'm one of those Mosin loving fools. I gotta thing for Russian designed rifles.

Don't forget the Belgian! Leon Nagant.:D

A friend of mine just caught Mosinitis pretty bad and it is slightly contagious.

Nutbusted, enjoy your rifle. What ammo are you using?

Not bad. I still need to see how my Mosin shoots now that I full-length corked it. I have a 1943 Izhevsk with a pristine bright bore and no counterbore. The upper handguard was loose, so I put some 1/32" cork under it for the full length of the upper handguard. Now the handguard fits tightly and the rifle should be even more accurate.

Presently have four of them, the one I linked to, plus two unissued and like new Finn 1968 No name M39 rifles which are scout scoped and one Finn 1941 Sako M39. All the Finn's are scary accurate with great trigger pulls.

Hi everybody, The ammo I am using is just spam can ammo!. I do have a lot of the "sniper #10 stamped" stuff. That ammo seems to be of much better quality than the military stuff. I did try some Golden Bear non-corrosive new ammo. My groupings were a little bit tighter @ meters right about 3 to 3 1/2inch groups some a little smaller but overall far more than adequate. Don't forget meters is nearly 1000ft!. Considering I have less than $500 in it including rifle that is very hard to beat. I can't find a rifle that will do better for less. These old Russian arms are very well built and the maching on this Tula was excellent. These things are addictive and fun. Maybe I should post a photo of the finished rifle. Looking to save up now for a carbine from J&G sales. God I love my FFL. PS: Wardenwolf, Please post how the cork thing turned out. Would you please?.
