Last night I ran across some magazines titled "Vietnam". I will add specific info on the magazine & articles later. The issue I borrowed had 2 items of interest.

#1 - There was a photo of a U.S. soldier with a short barrel m16 with a collapsable stock. The article was a about a specific engagement.

#2 - A photo of a U.S. soldier shooting a suppressed 10/22. I did look up that the 10/22 was introduced in 1964. The article was about the use of suppressed weapons.

Both pics caught me off guard as I figured neither was used in Vietnam. The Collapsable stock I thought was a later development. Both pics looked authentic.

Any comments are welcome.

Goggle Colt Commando, CAR-15, or XM177 and you will find there were indeed M-16 carbine and sub-guns with collapsible stocks used in Vietnam as early as 1966.

COlt developed a special flash suppressor which was also a "moderator", or barely effective suppressor, but it did help a little and gave added gas pressure boost to get the short barrels to work.

See CAR-15.

The Vietnam-era shorties had a reputation for jamming (yes, even worse than the standard-issue M-16s).

Possible about the 10/22 being used. I know for sure that supressed 10/22's were used by Isreali special forces during the Palastinian Intifada in 1987.

Ya, Carp15 :). I only saw one of them. A pilot of a loach who came in two or three times a week to bring dispatches or maps or other stuff I wasn't privy to had one that he'd gotten somewhere, probably traded for booze or something like that.
