bald Utter truth.....

probably nothing. b/c if faced with the choices open to draft age males at the time, i'd have done the same thing my father did. run for the nearest Air Force recruiting office, enlist for tech school and PRAY i got assigned to work on something flown by ADC (Air Defense Command). so that the odds were that the closest i'd ever get to Southeast Asia would be S. Korea! (this of course disregards the deployment of F-102s to Thailand early in the war)

Now if i was left no choice and HAD to go to vietnam, but could still choose my weapons, i'd probably have to say an XM-177 and a 1911A1

Turreted Rhinmetall RMK-30 with canister rounds on a Wiesel. Maybe two on the turret... and I'm pretty sure they have dual-feeds, so the other would be feeding ... probably 30mm explosive shells. The vietcong had RPGs, so throw in some reactive armor.

EDIT: In hindsight, an A-10 Thunderbolt with 11 M260LWL rocket pods carrying 19 Hydra-70 rockets each (on top of the GAU-8a 'Avenger' gatling gun...) with APKWS II laser guidance heads (Program cancelled Febuary 2007. Happy birthday indeed.)

Optional are nuke-tipped Hydra rockets with fractional-kiloton yield.

what were the ballistics of our .38 loading? How about the .357? Was it ever an official cartridge? (I never see much written about the .357 in service).
And since we have the real deal here, has anyone carried BOTH the M14 and the M16? If so what did you prefer and why? What were your problems with each?
