Vihtavouri N350 - What Say You?

I really want to try there powders since now there around or even cheaper then others I just can't get my head around there number system compared to other powders.

Never tried N350…but I would. Love N320, N340, 3N37, and N140.

From the website:

VIHTAVUORI N350 SLOW HANDGUN POWDER

…you’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?”

We think that even Dirty Harry himself possibly used Vihtavuori N350 in his famous .44 Rem Mag, when looking at his infallible shooting accuracy!

Vihtavuori N350 is the slowest in the N300 series of handgun powders. It is ideal for very heavy loadings and top velocities and energies for a broad range of pistol and revolver cartridges. The grain size (1,0 mm length and 0,8 mm diameter) is exactly the same than N320, N330 and N340; it is the porosity of the powder that makes all the difference in burning characteristics. N350 is very well suited to loading powerful rounds for example in calibers 9 mm Luger, 10 mm AUTO and .45 ACP. With the slow burning speed, it is ideal for very heavy and top end velocities and energies for a broad range of pistol and revolver cartridges. N350 is widely used in pistol shooting and especially in practical shooting.

Reloading tips from our Pros for using N350

  • Try this powder to loading powerful rounds such as the 10 mm and heavy loads in the .45 ACP
  • Delivers superb accuracy and velocity in 9 mm Luger when using maximum loads
N350 is available in 0,5 kg and 2 kg containers and in the USA in 1 lbs and 4 lbs containers.

Once you understand it, it is actually the simplest numbering system and actually makes sense compared to everyone else.

Basically speaking, Higher numbers are slower powders…340 is slower than 320…

100 (rifle) and 300 (pistol) series are single base. I’m not a reloading expert by far but all I use is VV and get awesome results.

I have not used N350 yet but when I run out of W296 and Enforcer I am going to try it. I have some N320 right now and really like it, cleanest burning powder I have ever used and very accurate loads with it. There powder meters superbly. They have a really nice app that I have on my phone and it is very easy to use with a lot of information.

Seems like that's what I was paying 10-15 yrs ago... I'd certainly recommend trying a pound of it.

At the time, I was trying VV based on the reputation of "clean". Maybe it was cleaner but I shoot light loads and they tend to be dirtier anyway...

Still, it was nice powder to work with.

Vihtavouri powders have always metered well and been clean burning. The only reason I commonly went with Aliant powder was the price point.

Now that their prices seem much more competitive, I don't see a good reason not to use them. My last remaining issue is that their pistol powders aren't available in 8lb jugs.

My most used VV powders are N310 and N320...also looking at N135. But I can see this expanding this year

VV makes clean burning propellant. I really like their app. It is pretty comprehensive and easy to use. Just make sure you’re reading grams or grains, the app defaults to grams.

Edited to add: If you register the app you can set the weight and lengths to grains and inches respectively.

I have used N320, and at $35 per pound I would certainly buy it again, several pounds in fact. I would try N350 at that price as well for my magnum loads. Unfortunately it's not available locally although I have seen a pound of rifle powder here and there.

Buy a pound and try it, you'll most likely like it. Burns cleaner than other powders I've used in my loads.

100 series single base rifle 500 dual base rifle. 300 series pistol. As the numbers go up the powder gets slower. They have some odd ones like 3n37 and 3n38 but I don't bother with those. N135 is basically imr 4895 and n140 is 4064. The n powders are slightly slower so if you used n135 with imr 4895 load data it would work but be under pressure.. I'm not advocating it at all but they are dam close. My 150 grain 308 imr4895 load is 44.4 and n135 is 44.8.

That's for you heavy hitters, I am very happy with 4 Lb jugs of it. I wish I could get a 4 Lb jug of BE-86.........had to settle for a couple of 1 pounders, I'll never use 8 pounds of it, too narrow a use for me with it.

I just picked up 8lbs when it was on sale at Natchez. Least expensive Alliant powder they had...regularly $416, marked down to $230. and additional 10% off to $207 and Free Hazmat .

What I found interesting is that 8lbs of BE-86 was almost twice the size of 8lbs of Shooters World SW4350 (their equivalent to Accurate 4350/H4350)

N350 is nice for hotter loads. N320, N330, & N340 would be more logical options for regular run of the mill loads. N310 is great for light target loads but is spiky if you start to push .

VV has N350 loads for rounds for cartridges like .38 Special but some of their starting loads for N350 and a 158 grain bullet is pushing 950 FPS which is kind of crazy because a lot of max loads for other powders don’t even go that high.

If I ever get around to loading for .44Mag, I’m gonna try N105.

I’ve thought about it for 10MM 200 grain bullets. I hear it’s excellent for that.
N105 is no longer imported. The last of it sold out around mid-Summer 2023. I've not seen it anywhere since ... except on my shelves of course.

This is going to sound crazy, but it's a great powder for loading 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum. Yeah, I pull the bullets from the Aguila stuff and load N105 and Berger bullets and then re-crimp with a Lee FCD for the 204 Ruger using a custom shell holder. Like I said ... crazy.

I run a lot of it. It is very low flash and works great in self defense loads. In 9mm I load 5.1gr under a 147gr HST, which is slightly +P and get 1050fps from a typical handgun barrel length. Superbly accurate.

Smells awesome when burned.
