I doubt that they are made by Tapco, they just look too much like one to inspire much confidence. They're probably a great deal better.

Hey VZ peoples -

I may be on the verge of joining your ranks, but I have a question.

I'm looking at one of those CZ VZ58 "Tactical Sporter" models from a local guy, and I think the stock & synthetic grips are atrocious, but the price seems pretty good. But I want the original woodwork.

So my question is - is the wood stock & handguards a direct swap or would I have to get some sort of hardware for it to work?

Any help is appreciated :)

I joined the VZ58 club tonight with this CZ Sporter 7.62x39. I've been waiting for one of these to pop up at the right time and price....Today one finally did and an unfired one at that ... ;)

Or so I thought I was going to join the ranks. The guy above me yoinked it out from underneath me. lol
I snoozed, I losed.

How does the VZ 58's trigger pull/feel compare to my typical Norinco SKS (long pull) trigger, or a WASR AK?
On mine..I'd say it feels typical for this type of rifle. Nothing special but should be sufficient for the shooting I plan to do with it, a little take up, decent break, some over travel and a long(er) reset.

MikePaiN, welcome to the club.

mberoose, keep looking, one will show up...if it has furniture that isn't to your taste Czechpoint (mil-spec wood composite) and Ironwood Designs (solid wood) sells replacements.

For anyone considering placing an order with Czechpoint, it's worth noting that they are really backed up ATM, so shipping is taking a few weeks. I'm finally getting around to purchasing parts for my 20rnd. magazine project, and they still haven't shipped yet. For those interested I will be willing to sell a few (not looking to make much on 'em, but they won't be cheap as the parts, particularly shipping for said parts, are somewhat costly so a group buy would save a bunch if there's a great deal of interest). I'll post modification instructions and let you guys know how it turns out in a week or two...

:)

It feels like the AK.
I disagree, mine is about as good as a mil-spec AR, or a properly installed Tapco AK trigger. Better than any stock AK I've tried (particularly a WASR), though nothing to brag about. OTOH I've noticed that the VZ-2008s trigger tends to be quite a bit heavier with a little more creep (IIRC they use a different trigger group design, so that might be the culprit).

:)

Newbie to the site here, but a long time lurker! Hope you like my little gal!

Just need a better optic, an offset light mount, and eventually get the muzzle extension off and put on an actual brake or flash hider. Sorry for the crappy pic.

Some nice looking Vz's in here....My intent is to keep mine as is, so I better stop browsing this thread

Do any of you have a connection for magazines or parts kits? They seem very hard to find or have a very long wait to ship.
I'd like to get at least one more Vz 30round and a 10rounder for bench/range use.

I have bought a couple surplus 4ct. packs from MidwayUSA for a little less than $50 (w/ FFL discount, but I doubt it makes a big difference) and they have all arrived in very good mechanical and aesthetic condition. It's the best deal that I've come across; the only "disadvantage" is that they are mil-spec magazines, which do not have any US manufactured parts (so you will have to replace 2 parts on the rifle or swap the follower and floorplate for 922r compliance). If you just want a single, you can purchase one from Czechpoint (expect to wait 2-4wks for delivery) and buy one that is already 922r compliant if need be. They also sell double-stack 10rnd. magazines, but were out of stock last I checked.

:)

^^^Why would you want steel magazines for the '58? Just makes it handle more like an AK (i.e. crummy)

The cheapest I've seen is on GB; 4 sandblasted mags in a leather pouch for 50$. Luckily, I'm currently all set with my mere 8 mags.

No problem, MikePaiN.

TCB, I seriously doubt they're steel. Note that the description also says that it's for the "CZ 58", they don't know what they have...or how to price it.

:)

Got a 4 pack yesterday from a NFA dealer friend of mine. Brings my stash up to 21. Think I will stop there.

OTOH I've noticed that the VZ-2008s trigger tends to be quite a bit heavier with a little more creep (IIRC they use a different trigger group design, so that might be the culprit).

To be more exact the vz2008 uses the original vz58 milsurp parts versus the czechpoint u.s. made polymer trigger parts. One difference for sure is the original spring has two prongs and the one with czechpoint has one prong. I have thought about buying the czechpoint parts to see if I would like the trigger better although honestly I am not the great connoisseur on trigger qualities like some. The way they talk about the nuances reminds me of the way wine enthusiast talk about body and boutique and such. Triggers have to be really really good or really really bad before I take any great notice.

It appears that the D.technik/Czechpoint spring simply has one of the feathers cut off. I don't know how comfortable you are performing the modification, but I don't see why you couldn't just lop one off with a Dremel or the like (I don't imagine that it makes any difference with yours, but the Czechpoint design has the starboard/right side removed).

:)

Let's take this in a different direction....I feel like I need a (9mm)pistol to "go along" with my Vz58. Any opinions on what might be a good match for this Sporter?
Silly question...a CZ-75? ;)

Quick update on my 20rnd. magazine project. I received the necessary parts yesterday and was able to modify/convert 4 magazines with no significant problems (the only minor problem that I have run into is getting an accurate cut in the magazine body to secure the new floorplate, but this is mostly cosmetic). I'll update late with detailed instructions on how to do this yourself (the tool requirements are not extensive, but you must be somewhat handy when it comes to basic metalworking) and photos. If anyone wants any let me know and I can make them for about $35ea plus shipping (as long as I can secure orders for at least 5, otherwise ordering the individual parts costs a small fortune).

:)
