All of you Michiganders here, that have already obtained a Michigan CPL, how long did it take fo them to review your application, and approve it? I ask, because the wife and I applied for ours on August 7th, and have not heard anything back as of yet. I'm starting to get a little antsy lol.

Thanks,

Chris

It depends on when your county gun board meets. If you turned in your paperwork at the county clerks office already it should be at the gun boards next meeting. ou may be able to find that date on line or call your county clerks office and ask them. Some counties have them monthly some bi-monthly.

I wouldn't worry yet. My last renewal in Oakland County took 45 days.

I forgot what county you guys are in. Oakland? Wayne? Wayne County often takes the longest. Anywhere from 60 days to six months. Nothing much you can do about it there but wait. They used to issue temporary permits if you applied for one after you'd been waiting a couple months. I don't know if they still do, but it wouldn't be that hard to find out.

Ask the same question over at www.mgouc.com and you can see how long other people have been waiting lately.

btw, "Hi."

i live in houghton county and got my permit this may. I waited 9 days. My gunboard interview lasted about 45 seconds.

Don't be antsy..I'd find out what day of the month the county gun board meets. If you applied the 7th, they didn't get your prints, etc. back till the 15th, but the gun board meeting was the 14th, you'd have to wait until the next month.

my renewal (Ogemaw County) took about two weeks... (I knew the meeting date, and started the process accordingly)

I also know most of the "gun board"...

meeting consisted of

Them - "why do you want a permit"

Me - "because the law saysI get one"

Them - *smile* I move to grant this permit, I second, all in favor, yes, yes, yes, yes - granted, now get outta here!"

45 seconds is a stretch!

Thanks for all the replies :)

I guess "Antsy" wasn't the right word lol, I'm just eager to get it, kinda like a kid on Christmas eve I guess, only Christmas eve is lasting months lol.

Oh, and for those that asked, I'm in Wayne county. We turned the applications in on the 7th, and went in for our fingerprints on the 10th.

I sure hope it doesn't take them 6 months to issue our permits :)

Chris

I live in Wayne Cty also. My original took about 4 months. My renewal took even longer for some idiotic reason, even though they said it would be shorter. Typical. I hate this county.

You should have it by Christmas

I believe they have 45 days after recieving their report on your fingerprints, and if no print report is available 60 days after submition to the FBI or state police they have to issue a "temporary" permit and have 180 days then to complete the process. This is from "memory" and may be wrong.

Genesee county twice told me mine would take up to 90 days from the day I turned in my paperwork and was printed. It took about that for my 1st permit and around 60 days for my renewal. The board meetings are monthly and also have a bearing on when the prints are submited to the statepolice, or FBI, who ever they use to run the check. I think they use the board as a way to gain 30 days extra before having to issue the temp permit.
I wouldn`t expect to see a license until early/mid Oct if I had sent mine in on Aug 7 as you say you did.

That's about the same I was told in Ann Arbor this summer. It's not how long it takes the locals to issue (other than the when the meetings take place) but how long it takes to get the fingerprints back.

2-3 months approximately from when the paperwork is turned in to getting the CPL.

I live in Lenawee, and it took almost 5 months. The fault was not the county gun board but the state as there was a problem at the beginning of the year. Sounds like it may be better now. Good Luck and report back when you get it. Stonecove

Apprx. 65 Days

I submitted the paperwork around Jan 15, 2005, and had my MCPL in hand by approximately March 20ish, 2005. Ergo, it was in the range of 65 days (Oakland County).

Just got a letter in the mail today

I've been approved. So has my wife. We are going down to pick up our permits tomorrow morning. :D

So from start to finish the application process took us 73 days.

They didn't even call my references. I know this because I've been checking with them from time to time to try and gauge if any progress was being made.

Now we just have to figure out what we're going to carry, and how :)

Thanks for all the replies before, just thought you all might want an update.

Chris

Congrats. Took long enough, didn't it?

We'll have to plan a range trip to celebrate.

Later

Rob
