Hello all.

I am wanting to get a Marlin Model 60 from Walmart. The one near me has the best price on the stainless with wood stock.

After reading threads about Walmart being such pains to deal with I was wondering what their policy was on people that get a Delay on their 4473?

Every once in a while I get a Delay on my 4473, I wait the 3 days (the NICS people NEVER call back), then the FFL releases the firearm to me. No problem.

Now I have read that Dick's won't release a firearm on Delay until the NICS folks call back and give a proceed, I was wondering if Walmart is the same way?

Thanks.

I bought a rifle from them and no problem, the problem is when you get a walmart worker that hasn't sold any or many beforehand.

Call your local walmart and ask for a manager to see what their policies are for selling firearms. Right down managers name, store number, time and date before you go in. This way you will know what to expect if you get delayed.

And always be respectful and kind during the sale. Once approved I like to ask if they have any ski masks and where the nearest state store is.

My father in law got delayed at walmart when purchasing a shotgun, the next day they got a call back with a "proceed", but wally world wouldn't do the transfer. They said it was company policy, but probably it was just an uninformed sales clerk.

Too many untrained employees and managers not wanting to get themselves in hot water. Varies from store to store and even within a store depending upon who is on the floor that shift. One employee may work 4 or 5 departments during a shift. That's why you usually save a few bucks buying there.

I got my "Christmas rifle," a Ruger Mini-14, at WalMart for $607.00. Last time I was in the store they had a Rossi Circuit Judge .45 Colt/.410 for $494.00, I think. They have had some very good, or at least reasonable deals, every time I've been in there. I buy the bulk Remington .357 Magnum 125 grain SJHP ammo for duty use in my S&W 681!

All Walmarts are different. One near where I used to live would order Leupold scopes, and I couldn't beat their price. Others I've been in rarely even have ammo. You never know what you're going to get.

If it matters, I purchased a mossy 500 from them and a cute little girl carried it all the way to my car. Never had that kind of service at any local gun store.;)

If you want a straight answer, ask the sporting goods department manager. It's their responsibility to know the procedures and they're liable for everyone under them. Any of the higher managers probably don't know the specifics at all, other than what they have to do for a gun sale.

I was watching a firearms deal at my local walmart and noticed some paperwork I had never seen before when buying a gun. It made me kind of wary about buying a gun from walmart. Still love their ammo prices for last minute range trips.

Well it indeed turns out that Walmart does need a Proceed even if you get a Delay. NICS must either call back or the employee must keep calling NICS.

I went to Walmart to buy the last Marlin Model 60 they had. I started the process at 9:25PM. Well the employee was really slow, they had to page the manager to come over to double and triple check the serial #s, blah, blah, blah. I got a Proceed thankfully.

Well they go to ring me out at 10:01PM and turns out that federal law states that there are no fiream sales after 10PM. AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to go back tomorrow to pick it up and pay for it!!!!

All I can say is good for you if you can afford to buy ammo from other distributors. They sure know how to make a customer feel unwelcome when buying ammo from walmart. I have heard some really unnecessary remarks from employees who obviously don't know anything about firearms when I buy ammo. I love the low prices, but the employees seem to not know anything about ammo, and their attitude is really bad.
Please change your attitude with ammo walmart. There are many of us who would appreciate it.
