Walther PPK/S

It is a classic and a romantic classic at that (James Bond). In .380 caliber it is considered to be the minimum for effective self defense. Of course, this is all opinion and you'll surely get plenty. Being a small handgun it is a bit snappy in recoil, not bad, just snappy. Walthers are also know for slide bite if held too far up the grip. I find it a fun and accurate gun to shoot but prone to FTF and stove piping when dirty or limp wristed. That said, I do carry it from time to time but it spends more time in the safe than my Ruger SP-101.

I posted a topic on the same gun a few minutes ago......one of my main questions had to do with the trigger weight. The site says the following:

Trigger Weight: 13.4 lbs./6 lbs.

That's a very heavy DA pull, and I was wondering how true that # is.

I had one and sold it because of the heavy trigger weight. Now I regret it, since I have become a better shooter, I think I could handle the heavy trigger pull better now.

If you use the 'search' feature on this forum, you will find lots of comments regarding the PPK.

I have the S&W PPK/S.

As others have said, it is very small, very accurate, and very reliable! It will eat all the various types of ammo I could find for it. Flat nosed, round nose, hollow point. Ranger is my favorite.

It can bite you a bit, just part of the blow back design. Not the type of gun that you are going to want to go to the range with and fire 200 rounds! Definately get the stainless version and you can round off the harsh edges on the back of the grip and the tang with some sand paper. Don't be too aggressive and take your time.

Make sure you get the plastic grips. I got factory wood grips and they did not fit well and caused a lot of malfunctions. Plastics fit right.

You can get a spring kit from Wolff and in a few minutes replace the main spring and it makes the DA trigger pull a LOT better. Go with the 16lb spring (lightest one they have) and it does not impact function at all.

You can get a nice little pocket holster. There are several varieties out there.

This is one of my favorite carry peices.

OK

I have one and is a nice piece in any collection. I use to make fun of the Bersa, but if I had to spend the money all over again I would buy the Bersa. On another aspect seeing that it is a 380 and recently picking up my new Kahr K9 in 9mm which is about the same size but chambered in 9mm I'd go for that. It is different than the polymer Kahr and seems to function better. The PPK or PPK/S is a classy weapon and I do like it very much. I have had no FTF's or FTE out of it. People tell me I got a lucky one.

Great gun for CCW. Downside is the the trigger which will never get much better. Even a good gunsmith can only smooth it a bit. The trade off is a handsome piece of solid stainless that packs very well.

The Bersa 380 is similar, but mine had reliability issues and I sold it. I'd suggest the Sig 232, as it is not known to bite the hand like the PPK. However, two things bother me about the Sig 232, lack of a slide release (you have to slingshot it), and a bottom european style mag release. That is just different from what I've come to be used to.

I carried a PPK/S for several years Trigger can be learned and its only first shot . I also want to 16lb trigger spring . Stock is 22 or 23lbs I don't like the New ones because of the longer tang. I also feel poor quality control from Smth. Look it over real good
