Walther PPS

wow....
the worse review ibe heard so far..
but when you said "It's very thin"
errr.... look at that site you linked to......... i think THIN is the point

I don't think it's intended as a 500 round a day range gun. Thin is good. Looks like a lot of P99 technology in it and the P99 isn't a cheap gun. It is ugly, I'll admit that, but who cares.

That's a pity. I'm keeping an eye on the reviews of this pistol. Looks like a potentially excellent pocket carry.

There's no doubt, though, that I'm more willing to credit jdmb03's description of the gun in light of Walther's previous willingness to put its name on the unpleasantly cheap-feeling P22. That gun did real damage to their brand.

I would have expected more from Walther.
What more? The point was to create a THIN CCW 9mm pistol that is very close to the size of the PPK. As far as the mag release Walther has been using that style since 1996 with the introduction of the P99 and later on the P99C (HK came up with the style on the PSP). Just use your trigger finger.
Also the first 1000 PPS' are First Edition models with the weird grey frame, production versions will have a black frame.

You seem to see a lot of things without really knowing what you're talking about.

I would assume this comment was directed towards me?

I spent 15 minutes in a gunshop handling the gun. I'm giving my observation and opinion.

Who else has actually handled the gun? (not just looked at the pictures on the website) Opinions please.

First I didn't like it - thought it was Ugly.

Saw my friend Ken's photos of his - Warming -liked it :)

Bought one sight unseen - First impression? Nice....

Not cheap feeling or cheaply made IMHO. Certainly as nice as P99C and HKP2000K. About the same size as my Springfield EMP.
Nicely made, fit/finish top notch, trigger not as bad as I thought it would be.
Frame grows on you.
Hard case is a nice touch, 3 mags are nice too 6/7/8. My choice is the 7.
Haven't shot it yet....

Ooozes Walther quality if you ask me. And I have plenty of Walthers :p

Just bought another one today. I'll have a shooter and a keeper. :D

Don't know what your beef with the P22 is jdmb03, but I think they are great little guns for the money. Lots of fun with a suppressor :)

I've shot one in 9mm. I rather liked it and it shot well. The mag release was weird, but nothing I couldn't get used to. I prefer a traditional mag release though, rather than a flipper under the trigger guard. Feeling cheap = subjective. I think XD's feel cheap because of the grip safety, some think all Glocks feel cheap because they're plastic, etc.

The lighter gray frame does look cheesy, but I'm not interested in looking at it, I want to shoot the thing. It did throw an occasional empty back and off the top of my head, which was odd, but aside from that I liked it fine. Overall I would say I'm interested in shooting the .40 version and getting more time to shoot a 9mm version than the 60 or so rounds I did the first time. It's worth a try, unless you just despise it as soon as you pick it up, which happens to all of us on occasion.

I see the PPS going the way of the P22.

Meaning what, lots of them sold? I've got a P22 and am plenty happy with it, as are a goodly number of people I know.

I have to wonder the same thing ToasterLocker is - you seem to have a beef with Walther, or are talking about some things that you probably don't know much about. I can't say anything about the new PPS, but what you mentioned about the P22 is way off.

The p22, is probably one of the best selling 22 autos out there.
heck i know folks who arnt walther lovers that have um...
they are probably THE SINGLE most suppressed 22 auto out there.... dont beleive me? go look around some of these "show me your suppressed guns" picture threads and youll see what i mean.

Ill admit, i didnt much like the looks of the PPS when i first saw it, but i remember not liking the p99 when i first saw it either... now i think its one of the most attractive polymers out there........ I also wasnt a big fan of the greyish frame of the PPS either, until i saw it in person and the gun really DOES ooze Walther style quality.
the First Edtion package is a nice package, it gives you all the magazines, the standard edtion wont... also the case is a nice touch....
One of the nicest features of the gun is the STEEL sights! finally walther is using metal sights! wish theyd do that on the P99s...
not complaining, since mine wear trijicons....
anyway..
i saw Walther hit another home run on this one. The FEs are pretty rare in my area, i bought the first and ONLY one like it , in my area...

I care more about how it shoots, especially WRT reliable functioning. It is considerably thinner and less "blocky" than my current pocket gun, a Kahr PM9, as well as having a considerably shorter trigger stroke. (My Kahr rubs my finger raw over a long session.) The funky mag release can be gotten used to, and actually has an advantage over the side-mounted pushbutton in some cases -- it would be harder to depress and release the magazine accidentally.

:scrutiny:

I've shot the P22 so I do have experience with it. In my opinion it wasn't a bigger seller for Walther.

I also like the PPK series, P88, P5 and P99, so where's the beef?

Looks like they got the size right but if people are saying it feels funny in their hand and the controls aren't easily accessible then they probably didn't quite hit a home-run with the design.

Hopefully they'll enlarge the controls a bit on the next run.

Did you guys say it was $600?
Seems overpriced. For that kind of money I can get a Glock 26 and a Makarov combined. For $600 I want stellar, not mediocre. Walthers are ok pistols, but they never really bit me. I know they are huge in Europe ,especially with Polish law enforcement, I also know several Canadian provincial law enforcement agencies adopted the P99, like Quebec, etc. < Montreal I think ,but I am not truly impressed with them, like I said, for $600, I want to be dazzled.

In my opinion it wasn't a bigger seller for Walther.

I'm glad you have that opinion, but the point of my comment was that that particular opinion is wrong. Trash or not, that's up to the individual - but the fact is that the P22 is a fairly brisk seller. So when you make statements about a gun "going the way of the P22", it doesn't really make much sense.

I'm very much hoping that Walther submits them for MA approval as it's very close to exactly what I have been looking for.

As to the P22 not being a big seller-HUH?!?! I don't think they've ever had a more successful gun in the civilian market considering units sold per time on the market.I know a half dozen guys that have em,not including myself. It's not the most wonderful thing ever but it is a neat toy that filled a niche fairly well.Going the way of the SIG Mosquito or Beretta 9000 I could understand if it flops.
