"...Roy Weatherby’s grandson, cited strong economic incentives from the Wyoming Business Council, as well as more freedom to develop new products without onerous legal restrictions as reasons for leaving California." (italics mine)

Not surprising. A real shame things have come to this.

Article here.

I'm amazed that any freedom based companies are left in some of the anti business states out there. Many have moved in the last few years and I think the rest will be forced to move or close entirely in the coming years.

Hope Weatherby does great in Wyoming!

I was in Paso Robles this past weekend, had I known Weatherby was planning on leaving I would have stopped by their Atascadero shop and said howdy...and good luck!!

I used to live near their Southgate shop. I'd stop and drool over their merchandise whenever I passed by.
Then I left California, intending never to return.
No more Weatherby's, I thought.
Weatherby's may soon become a possibility again... .

Thanks for posting and for the link, too. That should be a good move for Weatherby. Some states are just not a good fit for a firearms company and California is one of them. My state (NY state) is another one that fits that description and I find it surprising that Remington Arms still hasn't left the state completely. The high tax burden and regulatory climate has proven itself to actually discourage those types of companies in both California and NY State.

Now if we could just get all of the defense companies to move out of CA, taking all of those highly-educated highly-paid people with them (and all of the supporting companies as well) CA MIGHT start to see what they have done.
Glad to see Weatherby making the smart move to get out.

By causing a gun manufacturer to move from the state makes this is a victory for the anti-2A's in California as it moves them one step closer to removing all legally owned guns in the State.

Conversely it strengthens 2A rights in the state the company moves to....right?
In any case, can you blame any gun maker for moving to a more gun friendly state when things get hard in their own state?

Long term, this cannot but help Weatherby. California has not only restrictive , ideological, and gonzo local laws, the local Bureaucrats who enforce them are incompetent. I talked to one business owner, rain ran off the roof of his business, down the gutters, across the parking lotinto a storm grate on his property. The foreign national, who was the enforcing Bureaucrat for the California EPA, decided that the rain water was a major source of pollution and required the business owner to set up a very expensive water treatment plant, to purify the rain water before it went into the drain. There was no appeal and the idiot enforcing the laws, coming up with this scheme, was so incompetent as not to understand the issues, and whose language skills were such, could not follow the conversation. Instead of spending hundreds of thousands, if not millions, the business owner simply asphalted the storm grate on his property, all the rain water that previously drained through the grate on his property, flowed out into the street, draining in the public drains. Anyway, you hear enough of this idiocy out of California, local Government not only gone ideologically and militantly mad, but so incompetent that they are unaware they are incompetent, you would have to ask the question, why would anyone set up any business in the that state?

To further bash on California, a bud of mine contacted a California University and investigated College tuition for illegal immigrants. If you are a DACA type, both the Federal Government and the State of California have College Tuition money for you. Massive numbers of illegal immigrants are getting free College educations through these programs. Not only that, an illegal immigrant gets a spot in Medical Schools, Engineering Colleges, Law schools, spaces that everyone else has to compete for. I had a room mate who was a straight A student, competing for Medical School. There would be hundreds of applications for maybe 13 slots. He made it, but that was when the selection process was strictly based on merit. Colleges are no longer a meritocracy, students are in fact, ranked according to race and gender, with white males on the bottom, and according to immigration status. Now, if you are an illegal immigrant, you get one of those higher education slots. If however, you are unfortunately an American Citizen, "minority" or not, you don't. You don't get the DACA free educational grants, and you don't get the Medical, Law, Engineering school slot, you have to compete for whatever slots are left over after DACA, and you have to compete based on race and sex. This is a major reason you see so many DACA types on the news being interviewed on campus. They get a free education for being an illegal immigrant, which is not being mentioned by the liberal media.

New corporate tax codes are moving businesses/money out of certain states. Wyoming is a perfect place for anything related to what we are discussing on this site.

I doubt any state wants to see jobs and taxes leave, regardless of the product. Firearms? Yes, we hate you, but please keep sending the money.

You do not understand the liberal mindset when it comes to firearms.

In their mind all guns are evil. Guns are responsible for the murder rates, children being killed with guns, mass shootings, suicides, gangs, domestic violence and are such a public health menace that the AMA has a public campaign against having guns in the home.

In addition the liberals want to disarm all of the citizens so they can stay in power while continuing to fundamentally change society (which they are doing a pretty good job of). California is well on it's way to becoming a 3rd world country.

By running gun makers out of the State they can then make it illegal to sell the gun in the State without Government approval.

They don't need the manufacturer out of the state to make it illegal to sell their products instate. Colt AR is manufactured in CT, but you can't buy them there.

Plus, they need all the money they can get, it's expensive to pay the illegal's bills.

By causing a gun manufacturer to move from the state makes this is a victory for the anti-2A's in California as it moves them one step closer to removing all legally owned guns in the State.

That's true but in the mean time manufacturers has to survive otherwise there will be nothing to fight for.

Is this a firearms thread or another state bashing thread sprinkled with national immigration and general politics?

Slamfire, thats California State Water Resources Control Board for Storm Water run off. Having personally dealt with it, I can assure you that story is not accurate. They don't care which drain it goes down as all drains go to the public system. They care about the source.

Yep, went into the weeds pretty fast. Half baked rants with very little fact. No need to go into it.:(

What danez 71 said. i'm not into bashing states.

That move will cost Weatherby millions. Weatherby does not sell that many guns.

Does Weatherby intend to take any California employees to his new plant? Sounds like Weatherby intends to hire new folks at his new location. With all new employees there could be a long learning curve and quality control could suffer.

True. We need to be using the energy we use to bicker amongst ourselves to fight the anti gun crowd. Since the Vegas shooting they got recharged. Our momentum has stopped and states like my home state of Virginia are at risk of Ca style “gun control”.

The bills introduced in Va should horrify everyone here. I know they scare the hell out of me. Thankfully the GOP has a small majority in both houses so they died in committe. But with a vocal anti gun governor all we need is for a few seats to fall next time and he will sign any that pass.

Now I don’t know what’s going on in other states but we need to stop running from the fight. I for one am trying to figure out what to do as I’m in a district with sane people who elected peo 2nd Amendment represatives.

Exactly. We are in a bad situation here in WA. AR restrictions bills, magazine restrictions bills, you name it. We now have an AG governor and mostly dem legislators. Some of the bills in the house will pass and our dem governor will sign them. I recently read an article that said the dems control the legislation in CA, OR and WA. with dem governors. The west coast is now officially blue.

Spoke to a couple of the Weatherby guys at SHOT this last week. One mentioned that the Wby Factory move will affect about 3600 people. From the employees, to the folks who deliver materials, ship out the finished product, keep the factory clean and running, feed the workers, etc. 3600 folks affected by the move.

But...Sheridan, Wyoming and probably some folks from nearby Montana will be getting new jobs.

Was thinking about the Weatherby move while I was traveling to Vegas. Visited a buddy in AZ and driving back I hit a little bit of Cali. I'd paid $3.20 to $3.40 a gallon everywhere else for fuel. In Cali..... $4.29 for the same fuel.
