They do make 6" 1911's. They're not real common, and are generally pricey but they are made. Search "long slide 1911" you'll find them.

Not even super expensive, necessarily. RIA sells a 6" .45 for $750ish. A few people used to make 7" 1911s as well. I don't think anyone does any more but they are around on the used market.

My wish list is all over the place.

If a top tier company would clone the Taurus PT145 (on paper my ideal carry gun) I would buy.

If they came out with a mare's leg in .454 casull I'd buy.

On similar lines, if someone did a slim tube magazine .22 that split the difference between this:

And this:

I'd buy. (Doesn't need the big external lock but a long slender shape with the tube magazine in place of the ramrod.)

I like the .327 bearcat idea someone above mentioned.

Honestly we are in an era of cheap boring guns, and it is our fault as consumers. Rcmodel mentioned the woodsman but that is just one of many guns you can't buy anything like today because people won't pay. Consider the difference between an AMT Automag II and a PMR-30. If you tried selling an automag II today it would probably be a $1000 retail item, minimum, and nobody will spend that much.

I could see a couple of approaches...

The first would be to build remakes of older designs by subscription. I'd be up for a S&W K-32, I think it would do pretty well...but were I Smith & Wesson, I'd be selling them by subscription. You pay your money, it goes into escrow, and if we get enough purchasers you get a gun. Otherwise you get a refund.

That being said, I think the Next Big Thing will be electronics. Properly integrated red dot sights. Even an electronic trigger (that's been in use for Olympic Free Pistol for nearly 20 years, but repeaters are a bit harder).

How about a re-release of the SASS from Spring field armory with barrels for a plethora of magnum pistol rounds, .223/5.56mm, 7.62x39, 5.45, and .308 and naturally .30-30?

Also their Omega pistol with 10mm, .38 Super, and .45ACP barrels and shoot with the same extractor why not a .40 S&W as well?

Also instead of just talking about it and getting us all excited actually make Colt 1908 .380ACPs at a reasonable, competitive with other .380s price.

As long as we are dreaming .....may the Italian Python clone be worthwhile.

Sig 239 with a flat front trigger guard instead of the current curved trigger guard.

Springfield Armory XDm 3.8 Compact without the accessory rail and add an extra 1/4 inch to the grip and one more round in the mag since you'll have the extra space. Not because I am a capacity freak but because it hurts really bad when you do a combat reload using the extended magazine and pinch the palm of your hand between the grip and the magazine boot as you ram the mag home.

More DA/SA subcompact options in 9mm.

My fantasy is more prosaic, with these old eyeballs I'd love to see some optical sight like the Trijicon RMR dual illumination (fiber optic + tritium -- no batteries!) integrated into the slide of a gun something like the S&W Shield so that adding one doesn't cost more than the gun itself!

I want a doublestack 10mm with a DA/SA decocker configuration in a frame that was designed around the 10mm, rather than another firearm that simply happens to be chambered in 10mm. I have a big thing about preferring to get a model in the caliber it was "meant" for. A lot of guns are built on 9mm and scaled up to .40 for example and I'd rather get a gun built around .40 and a gun built around 9mm than get a .40 version of the 9mm.

FN has you covered! The FNX45t comes with a slide cut for the RMR and has a street price of $1100 so an RMR doesn't come close to the price of the gun. Heck, it doesn't even add 50% to the total price. ;)

What existing and/or new features (2 or more), would you like to see combined into a new handgun ?

To start with, I'd like to see 1911's and P-38's with 6" (or longer) barrels.
New guns (especially 1911's) and existing ones could use a new "drop in" barrel.:D

How about you ?:)
There are 6" 1911's ! :D

There already are 1911's with 6" barrels. I can't name one off hand because I have no interest in them but I think STI might make one.
