Howdy folks,
Just kidding. I am jealous though. We took the whole family out shooting today (my wife, my folks, my kids). Of course my mom and my kids didn't shoot but my wife and my dad shot. As always The Gunny (aka dad) outshot me, that's to be expected. But my wife surprised me. Second time shooting and she put 6 shots inside of a nickel at 25 yards with my .22 rifle. HER SECOND TIME SHOOTING!!! I'm very proud of her.

On a side note, I finally got to take out my PA-63 and my Romanian TT-33. Nice shooters, no malfunctions, I'm very happy. The PA-63, like you all said was a little sharp in my hand when I shot off hand (right handed) but with my strong hand and two handed, it wasn't nearly as bad as I've heard. I don't think I'll get new grips. It's my new carry piece (until I go back to CA :()
My only complaint is on the TT-33 with getting the slide release catch off and on. It's really difficult to do and I accidently pulled off the safety while disassembling it. I'm taking it apart and it pops out and I say, "Ooops. That's a felony." My dad looks at me (he's an LEO) and asks me what I'm doing. I didn't get arrested though. I put it back in.

Anywho, yeah, my wife is a dang good shot and I'm very proud of her.

She wants a magazine fed bolt action .22 with glass. Any suggestions?

I have a great time with my Ruger 10/22. Have somebody who knows what they're doing drill and tap the thing for a scope, though...mine got badly screwed up by the previous owner's amateur attempt, and won't hold a scope on it. And I'm not paying to have it drilled and tapped again.

Besides, shooting it with iron sights at 50 yards, with a spinner target...that's fun.

LOL - welcome to the fact that generally speaking, women are innately better shots than men - go figure!

By the way - you don't know how nice it is to hear a guy say he took his wife out, and she was shooting a .22! Best method of all for introducing new shooters - find something small and light that they can have fun with, and shoot well with! It encourages them to go again, and again, and again!!

As far as recommendations - you can't go wrong with Rugers.

+1 on the CZ453. Or the 452 American. CZ makes some incredibly accurate bolt actions for a lot less than competitors like Anschutz. If you look on the RimfireCentral forum, you'll see that CZ has a fanatical following. And on the outside chance your wife is left-handed, CZ makes several rimfire models in a left-handed bolt action. Check out the CZ USA website.

I'm not familiar with the weapon or why disassembly is a felony. Please enlighten me.

TT-33 is a poweful but smooth shooter. The PA-63 recoil is nasty. Change out the recoil spring with a heavier one from Wolff springs and put a rubber sleeve on the PA-63 and you'll love it.

Also, only use FMJ in you PA-63 or you will chew up the feed ramp. It is part of the aluminum frame and is rather soft.

Good shooting from your wife. That makes range time a lot more fun for her. Good job!

Probably has something to do with compliance parts. Imported semi-autos with a large magazine capacity have to have about 10 or so US made "compliance" parts to comply with federal law. Presumably, removing one of the compliance parts, even temporarily, could put you in violation of the law.

Haven't quite gotten my Marlin 25N trigger the way I want it. But can not complain about what it does with ammo it agrees with!

Good on ya making it a family affair! And good on her for shootin' good!

Forget the savage with accutrigger junk, or the 10/22 that cost as much in after market parts to make it shoot like it should out of the box.
Get a CZ, Ruger 77/22, or a Marlin. All are great shooters Marlin is the bargain of the lot. Great shooter right from the box, CZ is runner up, and 77/22 is expensive but impressive.
I own one of each mentioned here. I am saving up for the hyper accurate model.

I thought removing a safety was illegal...Anywho...

We stopped by a pawn shop today. She picked out a Savage MK II and loves it. The magazine it came with seems to hold 11 rounds so I have to pick up a few magazines for it and keep the 11 rounder at my folks' house. I'd like to get her a new stock. The length of pull is pretty short for her and for me but I don't want to take over and turn her rifle into mine. I'll have a gunsmith put the scope on once we get back from our vacation.

Oh, she also told me that she now needs a semi-automatic .22 as well...Gosh I love this girl...Looks like we're getting matching 10/22's

Oh yeah, oh yeah, I hear you on the slide release clip. What a completely stupid design that is! Scratched up the metal on the frame on mine trying to bang the dang thing out. That said, my TTC is the tightest, most accurate handgun I own. Beats the heck out of my 1911-- for one thing, it's actually reliable, which the 1911 decidedly is not (10% overall failure to either extract or load after 7000 rounds and much fussing around with)... but that's a digression, for which I apologize. Congrats to the lady on her natural abilities! May she continue to blossom.

(As an aside, did your Romanian come with the stainless barrel? And how are the grips, do they slide around any?)

You should be careful about saying stuff like that.....remember, she knows where you sleep....>

AZAndy,
The barrel looks stainless (it's not blued at all), and the grips are solid fitting. It's a tight shooter, I still have to figure it out since I've only shot it once yet so...The wife and I will go out later.

Why would you preface your post with this title? You could have started it a million ways, but you chose that. Despite your lighthearted writing, this is what you chose.

What I've noticed is that women pick up shooting a lot faster than guys. After experience sets in on both sides, it's an even playing field. This isn't what always happens, but it is my experience in shooting sports.

Ha! I just took a friend to the range for her first time shooting last weekend and she was hitting swinging Gatorade bottles within 2 hours with my Ruger MKII. She easily outshot her husband when she brought him along on a subsequent trip on Monday.

Women do seem to pick it up very quick.

You might get FTF Finder going just about the time FTF is outlawed pretty much no matter who gets elected in November. It would be WAY COOL!!!!

I'm not too worried. It should be done soon but I've been very busy recently with paying work. :)
