What ammo for Sig Mosquito?

I'm going to finally go through with it and buy a Sig Mosquito. Now I just need to figure out ammo options...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Everyone I've talked to who OWNS and shoots one says they work best with high velocity ammo. Not being well versed on rimfire ammo myself, I figured I'd come begging for options here. The universal answer when I ask people what they use is CCI Mini Mags. Simple enough...everyone else uses them, so will I. I'm just wondering what else is out there that is comparable. So with that in mind, what other good options are out there for high velocity .22 LR ammo?

Another question might be, can anyone point me to a site with a good deal on Mini-mags?

Months ago, I wanted to buy a .22 for targeting with cheaper ammo (vs. 9mm)... looked at the SIG-Mosquito first. My range had a fairly new rental and I bought a box of 550 Federals for $10 @ WMT... Didn't get thru the first 50... STOPPED!!... Too many FTFs, FTEs, etc. Rental desk sold me a box of 50 CCImm's (more expensive) and said they would work better. They did, but not much (Remingtons are also supposed to work well)!
In all fairness, this was almost a year ago and I've now heard, alot of the ammo problems have been resolved... but the CCIs are still THE recommended ammo. I just felt life was too short to screw with a problem .22 (considering all the work-horses out there-Ruger, Browning, etc.)!! Bought the .22 CZ Kadet , and like all my CZs, FLAWLESS... over 1000rnds, NOT ONE FTF, FTE, etc) and a joy to shoot. In my area, you can buy a Mosquito for UNDER $300... that should tell ya something.
But if you have your heart set on THAT gun, my only recommendation would be SHOOT IT FIRST!!!... and bring an assortment of .22 ammo...The other positive, is that it's a SIG, and they do stand behind their guns!!

The factory recommends CCI MiniMags and that is what you should use. I had one and while I liked it alot it was very ammo and grip sensitive. The problems I had with it made it took away alot of the fun of shooting it. I ended up trading it for a Ruger 22/45 and I've been MUCH happier with the Ruger. It has functioned flawlessly with about 8 different types of ammo, including the stuff that the Sig couldn't digest (like the cheap Federals). So, unless you want to shoot nothing but Mini Mags at $7 for a 100 round box I'd look at something else, obviously I can and do recommend the Ruger.

Mine shoots Federal bulk pack just fine, the only problems I've had is the occasional "dud" round that comes in every bulk pack. If you're not shooting hot rounds, make sure to have the lighter recoil spring installed so it will cycle correctly. CCI Minimags work well with the heavier spring.

Regardless of what anyone says, I shoot mine just about every range trip and it is every bit as reliable as any semi-auto .22 I've owned. BTW, I sold my NIB Buckmark because it would only work reliably with Minimags...

Thats been my experience also. My early Mosquito has fed everything I've put in it from day one, except, as NGIB mentioned, for the normal occasional dud. All .22's have the issue because of the ammo, not any fault of the gun. Although for some, its all they seem to be waiting to pounce on when it comes to the Mosquito and P22.

I usually just feed it Winchester Super X, simply because its what I have on hand.

And to add fuel to the fire, I also own a completely reliable P22. Why both of these are trashed frequently, I find them reliable and fun to shoot. Both the Buckmark and Ruger I owned were more ammo picky and neither was a good platform for a training substitute for normal centerfire semi-autos.

My Mosquito feels like my other Sigs so it is a good tool for getting cheap trigger time...

I had one, really liked the feel of it. Didn't really like the sights, the rear seemed (and was) canted. Mine FTF and stovepiped maybe once or twice a magazine. Mostly with HV Remington golden bullets.

Ended up selling it, got a Beretta 87. Absolutely no issues. Very reliable. This is one of the ones made in Italy.

Mine wouldn't digest bulk stuff at first, but it eats Federal bulk like it's going out of style now that it's broken in. If you can find bulk that's not hollow point, that would be the way to go. The trigger is only so-so...not nearly as good as my P2022 9mm, but it's OK. If you can get one for ~300, I say go for it.

If you want some bulk stuff without a holoow point, the remington thunderbolt is a solid bullet. Aguila Supermax isn't bulk, but its another solid point. Has enough oomph to cycle just about any autoloader.

My Kadet Kit is totally insensitive to ammo though, so I am a poor source of .22 reliability information.

I just bought one of these 2 days ago, and so far I like it alot. I heard a lot of mixed reviews so I held off for a while, but for $289 I coldn't pass it up. I have about 250 CCI MiniMags through it (which is the recommended ammo) with only one FTF because of a dud round. I will say that a guy I know wanted to shoot it today and he wanted to see what it it do with Federal bulk pack. It didn't do so well. No misfeeds, but it didn't lock the slide back on the last shot twice and didnt cycle a new round once. I am told however that once you get enough CCI MiniMags through it you can begin to shoot other stuff fine. Whatever, I love the feel of it so much that even if I have to shoot CCI through it forever I will be happy. Plus compared to my .45 or 5.56, 7 bucks for a 100 rounds is nothing.
