What ammo is NOT being bought up?

I think the bare shelves at Cabelas's in January had more to do with taking annual inventory for taxes than lack of availability of ammunition as the local one has filled it's shelves back up abet with more expensive premium stuff.

Any 22 LR, 9mm and 223 is not to be seen. Last week a clerk at the local Gander Mountain told me that 40 and 45 acp is being brought out.

If your after a something to get by on, get a 17HMR. I bought a savage NIB for $180 ,"albeit a few years ago", and put a sweet 17 scope on it. It is a very fun gun to shoot. I'd put pennies up on the 100yd range and start flying in lead. You have to have the right light to see a penny at that distance through a 12 power scope , or just remember where it's at,but man is it satisfying when you hit one.
Not as cheap shooting as 22lr but about as close as you can get to it in times like this. Every retailer I've visited has had 17hmr.

It's good for hunting as well, but just remember, head shots. Body shot on a squirrel is pretty messy. I've heard story of coyote hunting with 17 but I have not had the confidence to try it myself.

The supply of GP11 seems to be better than it has been in some time. 5.7x28 is as unavailable as it has been for the last 6 months or so :banghead:

I wouldn't buy a gun based on what is currently unavailable. I'd buy a firearm in a common caliber (unless I really wanted one of the other calibers) and stock up on ammo for it so that the next time there is a shortage it won't affect you.
It is for a new purchase, I have my main cals and ammo pretty stocked up!

I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK!

Just seen about 1500-2000 rounds of 17HMR at the bigger WalMart in town...
maybe more! So I believe I will get a nice 17 and a good scope on that. IMO
it would serve very well to put some food on the table, and be fun to shoot!
Some 22lr seems to trickle in, enough to keep stacking for the SHTF I guess!
